“All Things Digital” conference: Steve Jobs evangelizes the iPhone

Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates are scheduled to make a rare joint appearance anytime now at The Wall Street Journal’s D5: All Things Digital conference. But before that co-producer Walt Mossberg had an interesting Q&A session with Steve Jobs, I guess the part we were all eagerly waiting for, i.e. to hear some key iPhone announcements.

Alas, Steve did not make any announcements though he did respond to a wide array of questions on the iPhone such as: iPhone’s shipping date, where will it be available, on Cingular, iPhone sales estimates, OSX running on the iPhone, video service on the iPhone,  2.5G nature of the iPhone, regarding 3rd party apps on the iPhone, iPhone’s battery life.

As we are getting closer to Apple’s iPhone release, speculations about it only seem to be increasing. Folks at Vim3 weblog seem to have go hold of some interesting bit of details on some iPhone features which hasn’t been revealed by Apple so far.

more tricks up his sleeve, as there has been so much chatter around the

Top iPhone news & rumors from the 4th week of May

As we are getting closer to the iPhone launch, the iPhone news and rumors only seem to get louder.

In the third week of May, we had rumors about AT&T CEO giving away the first iPhone pre-launch in a low-key event based on a video footage, an internal AT&T memo revealing critical information about the iPhone, then of course probably the unforgettable event of a fake internal memo claiming "iPhone to be delayed" sending Apple stock plunging, news of Apple getting FCC approval and also news that the iPhone will be available exclusively at 2000 Apple & AT&T retail stores on launch.

I had written in one of my posts that the 3rd week of May was probably the week of iPhone rumors since its announcement in January. However, the 4th week was even more eventful with a lot of news and rumors on the Apple iPhone.

When Steve Jobs announced the iPhone during this January’s Keynote address, he made it the landmark keynote, the reason: the Apple iPhone is a landmark device, and as Steve Jobs stated a really smart smartphone. So does it mean the iPhone will have no competition when it is launched, definitely not, most mobile phone companies are popping up to announce their answer to the iPhone. So will there be a smartphone out there which can be considered as a worthy contenders to the iPhone. I believe there is definitely one smartphone, and it is Helio Ocean, it is the only other smartphone which has got me excited and might give the iPhone a run for its money. So which one is hotter?

Based on a study carried out by British Transport Police (BTP), mobile phone theft accounts for around 45% of the thefts on the London Underground, I guess that was one of the reasons BBC had carried out an article: What to do if you’ve had your mobile phone stolen? Based on a patent revealed by AppleInsider, Apple might be coming out with a theft-proof iPhone in the near future which should reduce some of the worries of owning an expensive mobile phone for all those traveling the London underground.
