Which one will it be? Apple's iPhone or Palm's Treo 755p

With the launch of the iPhone coming closer, it is important for those who are planning to buy an iPhone to figure out how the iPhone is stacked up in the competitive smartphone market to avoid being swayed by the iPhone buzz.

In last few weeks I have written comparisons of Apple's iPhone with Nokia's N95, iPhone VS RIM's BlackBerry Curve (8300) and the recent one between the iPhone and Helio's Ocean, as you must have guessed from the image above this article is a comparison of the iPhone with Palm's latest smartphone, Treo 755p.

Palm Treo (755p) advantages VS Apple iPhone:

Email: With the Palm Treo you can send and receive email from personal accounts like AOL, Gmail, and Yahoo, and it is also compatible with IBM Lotus Domino, or Novell GroupWise to deliver corporate e-mail in real time. This is probably one of the key functionalities for a business user.

3G support: Palm Treo 755p's supports 3G so you can experience broadband-like speeds on your device, around 300Kbps to 600Kbps and enjoy faster Web browsing, data transfer, and streaming music and video.

Documents to Go: Download, view, and edit Word and Excel compatible files, rehearse PowerPoint presentations, even review PDF files.

Dial-up Networking: Extend broadband-like speeds to your laptop by using your Treo smartphone as a modem. There is currently no information available to suggest iPhone will offer this feature, it is very useful for business travelers.

QWERTY keyboard: The Palm Treo 755p's full QWERTY keyboard should offer a better typing experience with its tactile feedback making typing emails, SMS or even dialing numbers a breeze.

Price: The Palm Treo is a far cheaper option than the $499 and $599 iPhone.

Palm OS Applications: Palm Treo is open to independent developers, thus you can make the 755P exclusively yours with thousands of third-party Palm OS applications.

Battery: User replaceable battery.

Apple iPhone advantages VS BlackBerry Curve ( 8300 ):

iPod: iPhone is a not just a phone it is widescreen iPod with touch controls that lets you enjoy all your content including music, audiobooks, videos, TV shows, and movies on a beautiful 3.5-inch widescreen display (BlackBerry Curve only has a 2.5 inch screen). The BlackBerry curve does have a media player, however with all the iPod features and 4 GB / 8 GB space, it makes the iPhone the best music phone.

Visual Voicemail: The iPhone lets you select and listen to voicemail messages in whatever order you want — just like email using a revolutionary new feature called the visual voicemail.

Advanced Safari browser: iPhone lets you see any web page the way it was designed to be seen, then easily zoom in by simply tapping on the multi-touch display with your finger which will change mobile browsing for the good.

Wi-Fi: iPhone is also Wi-Fi enabled and supports Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) which gives you an option to switch to faster Wi-FI networks instead of using EDGE which aren't that slow but also aren't very fast.

User Interface: iPhone features the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse. It’s an entirely new interface based on a large multi-touch display and innovative new software that lets you control everything using only your fingers.

QWERTY soft keyboard: iPhone’s full QWERTY soft keyboard lets you easily send and receive SMS messages in multiple sessions. And the keyboard is predictive, so it prevents and corrects mistakes, making it easier and more efficient to use however only time will tell if it is better than the full Qwerty keyboard thats available on Palm Treo 755p.

Camera: iPhone is expected to have a 2 megapixel camera, and from initial reports it seems like the camera on the iPhone will be quite superior to the low quality camera available on the Palm Treo.

As you can see there are enough positives for each of the smartphones, so get an answer to the question "Which one will it be?" it is important that you ask yourself which of the features listed above are important to you and that should help you decide if you will buy the Apple iPhone or Palm Treo 755p.
