"Jobs with iPhone" painting sells for more than "Steve Jobs and the apple" painting

I had written an article back in April about how the iPhone buzz had caught the art world as well, as an iPhone painting was sold at eBay for US $410. We recently had another painting (in my opinion a better one) of "Steve Jobs and the apple" by the same artist which was also auctioned at eBay but for a lesser price. So did the buzz surrounding the iPhone release make the difference?

"Steve Jobs and the apple"

These are the words from artist "Nitrozac" about the "Steve Jobs and the apple" painting: "Steve Jobs in the prime of his youth, dressing to impress, with that "I'm changing the world" confidence. He has a mischievous look and a luminous glow about him, and seems to be tempting the viewer with the apple... just one "byte" and your soul will be his! (Today he gets that same effect with an iPhone :-D)"

The significance of the event depicted in the painting seems to be the announcement of "Apple Computers" in the artists imagination as I don't think Steve Jobs actually would have held an apple while making the announcement (at least I didn't find any such picture on the net) and I also believe, Steve Wozniak, who was the co-founder of Apple Computer would have been part of the announcement.

The winning bid at eBay for the painting was US $255. The painting was only 5”x7”. For more details on the auction on ebay, click here.

"Jobs with iPhone"

These are the words of artist about the "Steve Jobs and the iPhone" painting: "This painting is filled with that goose-bump moment when Jobs unleashed the iPhone at MacWorld Expo 2007. Deep down you know the iPhone is going to be as big. This painting encapulates that techno-moment in history, and now it can be yours to grace your walls and feast your eyes upon."

The significance of this event as we all know was the announcement of the Apple iPhone which could usher the mobile phone industry into the iPhone era. "The Era BI: time Before the iPhone, and the ERA AI: time After the iPhone" as predicted by Tomi Ahonen of "Communities Dominate Brands" blog.

The above painting was sold at eBay for US $410. The painting was only 5”x7”. For more details on the auction on eBay, click here.

And this last one does suggest (thankfully) that Steve Jobs does add a lot of value to Apple, where the painting of just the "iPhone" (read without Steve Jobs) was sold for lesser than the above two paintings.

"iPhone"

These are the words of the artist about the "iPhone" painting: "I painted it life-size, on a black background. I paid meticulous attention to the fine detailing of those teeny tiny icons. The iPhone is a superb subject to have painted. It's colourful, playful, a real techno-beauty! It's going to look gorgeous on a lucky geek's wall."

The above painting was sold at eBay for US $202.50. The painting was only 7”x9”. For more details on the auction on ebay, click here.

I am no expert to judge the value of a painting but in my opinion "Steve Jobs and the apple" deserved to get a better price (relatively of course) than the others if you look at the paintings objectively so was it the buzz surrounding the iPhone release that convinced the buyer to pay the higher price??
