WebEx's PCNow brings Corporate Email, Skype to the iPhone via remote desktop

Webex PCNow on the iPhone

One of the disappointments of the iPhone for business users has to be the lack of support for corporate email and hence people still need to depend on their smartphones such as BlackBerry as it is compatible with your company's BlackBerry Enterprise server with support for Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino, or Novell GroupWise to deliver corporate e-mail in real time.

Business users have some good news, WebEx has just launched an iPhone compatible version of its PCNow software to give corporate users a way to access Outlook e-mail via their iPhone.

The iPhone compatible web app gives iPhone users the ability to wirelessly access their desktop PC from anywhere.

If you remember SoonR, the first application to bring VOIP to the iPhone by providing you a way to use Skype (see iPhoneHacks.com, SoonR Talk brings VOIP to your iPhone); WebEx has partnered with SoonR to give iPhone users the ability to access their desktop for search, Microsoft Outlook contacts, calendar, email and multiple types of documents.

As you would expect, the content is optimized for viewing and designed to deliver the same experience as working on the desktop computer.

The best part of this iPhone application there is no software to download nor any hacking required; to access their desktop users simply navigate iPhone’s Safari web browser. Thanks to SoonR it also brings mobile VOIP to the iPhone as it lets you use SkypeOut to call contacts on your Skpe account. Unfortunately it is currently only available for Windows and WebEx will be offering native support for Mac OS X desktops later this year.

The workaround provided by WebEx to access your corporate email is a good solution for small mid-size businesses and individuals.

You also get 100 MB of offline storage to store selected files for easy access when your PC is offline which is an extremely useful feature when you are travelling.

I strongly recommend this iPhone Application. You can sign-up for a free 30-day trial using this link and as always do let us know how well it works in the comments.
