iPhone Skinner: Personalize your iPhone with this latest iPhone hack

iPhone

Bored of your iPhone's home screen? Folks at ModMyiPhone have just released the latest iPhone hack called the "iPhone Skinner" which will help you to easily change your iPhone's background as well as the application and dock icons.

The best part of this iPhone hack is you can get it to work in both Windows and OS X unlike iFuntastic which also helps you edit and replace any graphic on the phone but only works on Intel based MAC only!

iPhone Skinner is web-based application which allows users to create iPhone skins on the fly by uploading a background image, application and dock icons of their choice. Its quite easy to make your own iPhone skin, all you need to do is upload the background images and icons; then drag and drop the icons onto the iPhone home screen image provided as reference, thus creating your very own iPhone skin.

Once you are happy with your new iPhone home screen, you need to click on the "Create Skin" button which basically creates a .ipb file, which you then need to copy onto your iPhone.

You may use InstallPB created by another iPhone hacking genius "timblade" to copy the .ipb file onto your iPhone. Details on how to use InstallPB in either Windows or OS X is available at the following forum post. However, there is currently no step by step user guide available which will help you use this iPhone hack, but the good folks at ModMyiPhone have promised to have a step by step guide very soon.

iPhone Skinner has the potential to be a great tool to personalize the iPhone, it is a pity that Apple is yet to provide iPhone users with such personalization features for the iPhone.

The iPhone Skinner is currently available free of charge, however they might charging for the services depending on system resource uses. I guess that's fair enough.

Follow this link, to personalize your iPhone with iPhone Skinner and don't forget to drop by to let us know your experience with this latest iPhone hack.

UPDATE 2: I just checked it out and I was able to create my very own iPhone skin, it was quite easy. I am not sure if they fixed something or I was just doing something wrong.  Install instructions for Windows are also now available, follow this link for it.

UPDATE: I don't have an iPhone (not yet launched in Europe) but I tried to create my own iPhone skin (.ipb file) which is the first step, however I ran into quite a few issues (not sure if I was doing it wrong), but I could only see an option to see few pre-made app icons as opposed to their claim to be able to upload icons as well and clicking on the "Create Skin" button did nothing. I tried this with Firefox and IE 7 without success. I will give it a shot later in the day, if you got it working do share the steps you followed in the comments below.
