iPhone Hackers bring first third-party native iPhone Application

It hasn't been even a week since we had the first unauthorized iPhone GUI "Hello World" application binary released. Even though the application just displayed "Hello World" we were aware of the potential of the iPhone hack. As expected, iPhone hackers have made further progress as they have now developed a full-fledged iPhone application with a graphic user interface and its own icon in the iPhone home screen. The other interesting bit is that the iPhone hack is being hosted on Google Code.

The name of the application on the iPhone is MobileTerminal which essential is "a terminal emulator application for the iPhone. Mobile Terminal.app is NOT an SSH client, nor Telnet for that matter. It can however be used to execute a console ssh-client application." In addition to that the iPhone hack does actually install a new icon on the home screen as well.

MobileTerminal?? Okay, I agree it might not have excited many of you but as I had mentioned earlier, there are reasons which could make this iPhone hack very significant especially as the iPhone hacks is being hosted on Google code. Does it mean Apple has given the nod to this kind of development? Let us hope the answer for this one is "YES" and it is "YES" for other developers as well.

I must add that kudos to the iPhone hackers who are making steady progress in their goal on developing quality tools for the iPhone.
