The flood of iPhone hacks and applications has resulted in a lot of innovative solutions from the iPhone hacking community to workaround the 16 application limit on iPhone's home screen.
The latest iPhone hack by hacker "lg" called the "SummerBoard" solves the 16 application limit by enabling scrolling of iPhone's home screen.
Since the last week; we have seen three solutions to fix the 16 application limit on iPhone's home screen (also called the SpringBoard) by the iPhone hacking community. We first had bitSplit, the iPhone hacking legend, introducing a new feature in the latest version of iFuntastic where iPhone users could have multiple home screens with each having different application icons (see iPhoneHacks.com, iFuntastic v3.03).
We then had another iPhone hacking genius Natetrue releasing an iPhone application called "Dock" where it provided a curved arc of iPhone applications to select from though the first version of "Dock" actually had scrolling enabled on the last row of the iPhone's home screen (see iPhoneHacks.com, Dock: The iPhone hack which enables scrolling on iPhone's home screen).
In case of the latest one; iPhone hacker "lg" seems to have picked up from where NateTrue left off with the first version of Dock; as his iPhone application "SummerBoard" also enables scrolling on the home screen by extending the SpringBoard and making use of custom routines loaded through a back door, allowing scrolling of the icon list and the use of custom wallpaper behind said icons.
The difference between the first version of the Dock and this iPhone hack is that SummerBoard allows scrolling of the iPhone's home screen and not just last row of the home screen making it that much more user friendly. So you no longer need to use an iPhone launcher that searches for additional applications and lets you choose one from a list.
The best part of the iPhone hack is also that it can be easily installed using the Installer.app. In order to install Installer.app on to your iPhone follow the links below:

Erica Sudan @ Tuaw who has tested this hack has the following to say about it:
It's pretty cool but it's still a first release. I ended up rebooting my phone 5 times before I got it working. I had to launch an app, and then force-quit it by pressing Home about 4-8 seconds. Then it worked really well.
So stay tuned @ iPhoneHacks.com for the updates on SummerBoard. You can see that it works quite well in the YouTube video below:
Keep up the good work "lg", we will be waiting for the additional features you have promised in future releases.
Thanks Count Bunker @ the forums for sending this in.
Folks, let me know how well it works for you in the comments below.

Though this is most likely a common occurrence, I've noticed that most apps and hacks installed via the "Installer" app don't function well (or at all) once your phone has been unshackled in iFuntastic. Interface problems occur, most likely due to the features that iFuntastic has: "pages" and "wallpapered home screen" This is a bad example of trying to be an all in one solution. I'm much happier with all of the apps that the third party dev teams post in installer.
Less fuss, more productivity. Hello solution.
Definitely agree with the post above… iFuntastic 3.03 gave me nothing but problems so if I need to use it I tend to use v2.50 instead. Summerboard is great and although the third version gave me some problems with my dock, other than that it seems pretty much flawless. Great idea by lg.
This app is by far the best one of its kind. I had some trouble with ifuntastic. It makes a black border around the icons. I had to replace them with the originals and rewrite the names. But it was worth it because my phone is now perfect. And rSBT is a lot better than ifuntastics method.
Now THIS is what i paid 600$ for
probably the best iphone hack yet
Wow, thanks guys, this is really awesome
anybody with an iphone needs this

it would b nice to b able to customize the wallpaper
or add more selections to choose from

Really fun and useful hack. Installed and worked perfectly right from the get-go. Thanks, lg!
Great App! The best for iPhone so far!
Apple should have included it! It's needed with all apps there are now!
A must have really!
Thanks a million!

Has anyone tried to see how many screenfulls Summerboard allows? I have 1 slot left on screen 2 and am curious what will happen when that is full and I load another app on. Will it crash or give me a 3rd screenfull? Thanks
yo… how come the new summerboard doesn't have this? I have jb 1.1.4 and it won't let me download the old version
