No Hacking required: iToner makes adding custom ringtones on your iPhone very easy

iPhone iToner

There have been many iPhone hacks released to add custom ringtones on your iPhone. It all began with a lengthy and complicated 23 step process then made easier with GUI based iPhone hacks like iFuntastic. However, if you are looking for something more user-friendly then you should check out Ambrosia SW's iToner as it seems to be the simplest option available to add custom ringtones to the iPhone.

The process of adding custom ringtones on your iPhone using the iToner can be described in three words after you plug in the iPhone: i.e. drag, drop and sync; it is as simple as that. All you need to do is to drop the audio files on an iPhone-like interface and click on the sync button to add them as custom ringtones to your iPhone.

The best part about the iPhone application is you don't need any hacking, modifying or soldering to get it to work and Ambrosia also guarantees that your ringtones will continue to work even with future firmware updates.

The iToner costs $15 and is currently only available for MAC OS X. Windows users should check out iPhone RingToneMaker which I had covered few weeks back which may not be as easy to use as this one but definitely more user friendly then the iPhone hacks. (see iPhoneHacks.com, iPhone RingToneMaker: Custom ringtones (hack) for your iPhone made simpler)

There has been rumors going around this week that Apple might soon allow iPhone users to use the iTunes as their ringtones (speculations are the announcement would be at the media event on September, 5th, 2007) . Though it will be a positive step by Apple to help iPhone users customize their iPhone, applications like iToner and RingToneMaker might spoil the party for Apple as users might prefer to pay a one time fee for such applications rather than pay to use each iTunes they buy as a ringtone on the iPhone and lets not forget there already quite a few iPhone hacks out there which let you do it too; so it will be interesting to see how this story develops, let me know your thoughts on this in the comments below.

Update: iToner 1.0.2 is compatible with iTunes 7.4.2.
