iPhoneSIMFree.com: iPhone Software-only Unlock method confirmed by Gizmodo

iPhone Hacks

If the confirmation from ever so dependable Ryan Block at Engadget or the reputable CNN was not enough to convince folks in the blogging world that the software-only iPhone hack to unlock the iPhone from folks @ iPhoneSIMFree.com worked then Gizmodo has just released for the very first time the video proof of the unlock process.

The other update is that the unlocking software has been delayed and will now be released on Monday.

Earlier in the week, we had news that iPhoneSIMFree had started taking bulk orders with pricing starting at $36 each for 50 licenses to $25 each for 5000 licenses and do not plan to sell the software-only unlocking method to end users. (see iPhoneHacks.com, iPhonesimfree.com has started accepting orders for software-only iPhone hack)

However, they had delays in shipping the unlocking software to the resellers which resulted in some folks speculating that the software only iPhone hack was probably a hoax.

Gizmodo with the exclusive video have not only confirmed the unlock process but they have also clarified the reason for the delay in delivering the solution to resellers. Apparently though the unlock mechanism was done weeks back, and was not the reason for the delay as speculated.

The main reason for the delay was due to the fact that the iPhoneSIMFree.com team was busy working on the backend systems to support the reseller network, which took more time than expected. The new release date is now Monday, 10th September.

Some of the details on the iPhone hack based on the video and information available:

  • The unlocking process seemed to be fairly straight forward and takes approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
  • The iPhone needs to be jail-breaked as you need to load programs on your iPhone.
  • The unlock process itself is safe from restores and is quite stable.
  • There seems to be no chance of damaging your iPhone, and
  • Most errors (if any) can be fixed by restoring the phone and trying again.
