Google Docs on the go: View Docs, Spreadsheets & Presentations on your iPhone

Google Docs for iPhone

Google Docs Blog had announced couple of weeks back about Google Docs for mobile phones especially the iPhone, it means that you will now be able to view your docs, spreadsheets and presentations that are optimized for the iPhone.

However, the current optimized iPhone edition is only available in read-only, allowing you to view your documents, but not to edit them.

You can access the docs using the regular link; but you will soon notice that it is rather difficult to use as the UI is cramped up and this is even before the keyboard is activated.

To check out the read-only version of Google docs, point your iPhone's Safari browser to http://docs.google.com/m.

If you are not happy with the option of only being able to view Microsoft Word documents with your iPhone and would like to edit them as well then you can check out Glide Write 2.0 iPhone version which brings powerful mobile document creation and collaboration features to your iPhone which I had reviewed in September.

These are still early days and I am sure we will soon we able to edit Google Docs from the iPhone. Google seems to be making all the right moves with regards to apps for the iPhone as I think they realize the potential of the jesus phone. They have now launched a slew of products optimized for the iPhone starting with the killer iPhone Apps like Google Maps, YouTube and others like Google Calendar, Gmail and now Google Docs.

Will Google be to iPhone/mobile phones, what Microsoft has been to PCs?
