Windows users: TouchFree - GUI based tool to JailBreak iPhone v1.1.1 and install Installer app

TouchFree

"How can I install Installer app on the iPhone OS v1.1.1?" has probably been one of the most commonly asked question from iPhone owners who have Windows. The reason for this is due to the fact that we have not seen any instructions to install the cool Installer app on their iPhone running OS v1.1.1, the easiest way to get unauthorized third-party iPhone applications on the iPhone. It seemed like only the Mac users have been blessed by the iPhone hacking community.

However, thanks to a tip from grkfire, one of the readers here @ iPhone Hacks, there is a GUI based tool called "TouchFree" though developed for iPod Touch can also be used to jailbreak iPhone v1.1.1 and also install Installer app on your iPhone. But before you get all excited, read the details after the jump.

grkfire, one of the readers here @ iPhone Hacks has just provided a tip in the comments for iPhone owners who have Windows and want to install third-party applications on their iPhone.

This is what he had to say to PC users who were trying to figure out if there was a way or some set of instructions to install the Installer.app on the iPhone if you had Windows:

"I'm someone that was in your exact situation and I installed 1.1.1 over a week ago with a GUI guided jailbreak. Called Touchfree. It's actually for the iPod touch but it worked flawlessly on my iPhone. Really easy process. There is a new alpha version out which requires only 1 restart, but I didn't use that one. I used ver.06

It also only installs Installer & Summerboard automatically. Which then you can update straight on the iPhone, no SSHing or anything.

Check it out!"

TouchFree is a GUI-based app which as grkfire mentions though is developed for iPod Touch OS v1.1.1 has been confirmed to be working with iPhone OS v1.1.1. Its not surprising as after the latest iPhone firmware update technically there is nothing different between iPhone OS v1.1.1 and iPod OS v1.1.1.

TouchFree enables SSH and SFTP, and installs Installer.app, Trip1Pogostick and an alpha version of SummerBoard. However, TouchFree currently works only on a PC.

However before you get all excited, after going through the prerequisites required it appears that TouchFree internally makes use of the TIFF vulnerability found in the iPhone OS v1.1.1 firmware's mobile Safari which is essentially a security flaw and hence not the recommended method of jailbreaking the iPhone. So do remember as always if you try this out like all other hacks its at your own risk.

The iPhone hacker is currently testing out the beta version of his program. Click here to visit the hackers website to find out the prerequisites and the instructions of installing the app.

Thanks grkfire for the tip!

Update (21st October):

Even though there have been confirmations from some of the iPhone owners that this program has worked well for them, based on comments from reader "turk" below who seems to have strangely bricked his iPhone, it is recommended to not use this program. Thanks turk for the feedback on the tool for the benefit of other readers, appreciate it.

Update:

As I just finished publishing the article, Jboy, another reader here @ iPhone Hacks has also confirmed that TouchFree works on the iPhone. This is what he had to say "I can't believe how easy it was.  Really good software!". Thanks Jboy for the feedback.
