One of the easiest way to add custom ringtones to your iPhone in OS v1.0.2 was to use popular iPhone Applications like iToner for Mac and iPhone RingToneMaker for Windows. However, with the now infamous v1.1.1 firmware upgrade both these programs had become unusable.
It was only last week that Ambrosia SW, the developers of iToner released the latest version of their app which worked with iPhone OS v1.1.1, not to be left behind today we have Efiko Software, the developers of iPhone RingToneMaker, announcing the release of iPhoneRingToneMaker 1.4, the preview release for iPhone OS v1.1.1 support.
iPhone RingToneMaker, an almost perfect solution to get custom ringtones onto your iPhone is not just a tool to add ringtones to the iPhone, it is an all in one solution for creating, editing, and managing custom ringtones onto your iPhone.
However, do note that Efiko Software is still working on some final minor issues and you can expect some more changes for the good in the final version.
They have posted one of the known issues:
"If after every sync with iTunes your ringtones disappear, launch iPhoneRingToneMaker and go to the "Manage my Ringtones" screen and select the link that says "To restore your ringtones please click here."
They also highlight that at this point they do not recommend you to upgrade to iPhone OS v1.1.1 just to use the preview version of iPhone RingToneMaker but rather wait for the final version. However, if you are an iPhone owner who has already upgraded to iPhone OS v1.1.1 then you can check it out. Here is a recap on how the tool works:
Start making your first ringtone:
iPhone RingToneMaker supports MP3, WAV, and OGG formats, so you can select just about any file from your music library. I had also covered an article on how you can use iTunes previews as your custom ringtones so that is another source you can use for your custom ringtones.
Edit your ringtone:
You can use the audio edit screen to select the section you want to use as your ringtone. With your advanced interface you can even select the 'Start' and 'End' times precise to the hundredths of a second with the help of a slider.
Preview your ringtone:
You can also preview how your ringtone will sound by clicking on the "Preview" button.
Create Ringtone:
Click the "Create Ringtone" button and it takes your music file and creates a new one perfectly sized to fit on your iPhone with just the snippet you selected.
Send Ringtone to iPhone:
You simply click the "Send Ringtone to iPhone" button (while you iPhone is connected) and it places the new Ringtone into your iPhone list.
In addition, you also have the Ringtone Manager to help you manage all your new ringtones. It really looks very simple to use and you are allowed to make three custom ringtones before registering which should give you ample opportunity to see how you like the software and verify that it works with your iPhone.
You can download the trial version of the preview release by following this link, it would cost you $14.95 to unlock the trial version which is a one time fee rather than paying Apple an additional 99c every time you want to add a song as your ringtone.
As always do share your experience with iPhone RingToneMaker in the comments once you have played around with it.

Ill wait for the improved version of Erica's program.
i just think it is ridiculous what apple does with ringtones.. every single stupid cellphone out there you can put whatever ringtone you like.. why should it be different with the iphone.. stupids..
This program is pretty easy to use. Nice tool for us Windows users. Not alot of options right now. I have added tons of ringtones -
A++
yep. Y do I have to pay $15 for ringtones I could buy from apple 10-15 ringtones and it will be enough for me ( usually I use 5 ringtones and I dont need any more)? U guys just doing same mistake as apple. I better use sendsong for now. I've newer paid for this bull before and newer will.
*never
do u need to have a jailbroken phone in order for this to work?
Hey Mike,
You don't need to Jailbreak your iPhone for iPhone RingToneMaker.
cheers!
I am using sendsong to have ringtones but not all them work.. I dont know how.. anyway,, still better than pay for ringtones..
I tried the alpha and every time I go to send to Iphone it says error -1. Anyone else?
I just download 14 custom ringtones using the iPhone RingToneMaker Alpha version and it works perfect.
15$ …I don't think so. Erica's send song though is flaky – works in most cases. Moreover – I should transfer at least 16 ringtones to justify the 15$ price tag compared to buying legit ringtones from Apple. Not worth it.
I picked this program up a couple months ago, worked great. Now with the new Iphone update it hasn't been working for me and there is no update on the software yet. Very disappointed! However, if they can get an update, and allow for even text message ringtones, golf clap to them!
Not working with ITUNES 7.6 and IPHONE 1.1.4.
iphone ver. 1.1.4
itunes ver. 7.4.x 7.5.x 7.6.x
If itunes sync active or use it (ringtones sync is closed but @^#)^%), ringtones automaticly deleted.
