Time: iPhone is the "Invention of the Year"
I might be saying this the second time in the day, but as soon as Steve Jobs had announced the iPhone during the Keynote address in January, we knew Apple had a winner on their hands. iPhone has easily been the most hyped gadget ever created and the great thing about iPhone is that it has been able to live up to all the hype.
So when Time announced today that the "Invention of the Year" is the iPhone, we are not surprised, if it was anything other than the iPhone then we would have been. YouTube won the award last year. Some of the credit to make the iPhone even better than what we thought it would be has to go to the hard work put in by the iPhone hackers and developers and the most revolutionary part of the iPhone is that with the firmware updates and SDK in February, we should see Apple unlocking new features and application that will make it even better.
Time gives five reasons for giving iPhone that award:
1. The iPhone is pretty
2. It's touchy-feely
3. It will make other phones better
4. It's not a phone, it's a platform
5. It is but the ghost of iPhones yet to come
So lets put aside our critics hat about the iPhone not being open enough, it being locked etc etc and raise a toast to Apple Engineers for giving us the iPhone and if it hadn't been the iPhone then it would have been iPod Touch, the best iPod Apple has ever created.
iPhone owners let me know your thoughts.
