You are going to love this native iPhone application developed by none other then iPhone hacking legend Erica Sadun.
Have you ever liked a song on the radio only to feel helpless that you cannot find out what song it is? You won't have to feel helpless anymore if you have "Listen" as the name is aptly called installed on your iPhone as all you need to do is put your iPhone near the speakers and Voila! the native iPhone application will display the song, artist, and album.
In my opinion it is easily one of the coolest iPhone application, so go ahead check out the details after the jump.
If you do not have a Sony Ericsson phone like me which apparently already has this feature then quite frankly you will be amazed by this iPhone app (at least I was).
Erica Sadun, the iPhone hacking genius has been humble enough to admit that her latest native iPhone application called "Listen" was based on an idea from one of her readers.
So if you want to know the song playing on the radio, all you need to do is install Listen on you iPhone by downloading it from this link, launch it from your home screen and put your iPhone near the speakers. The native iPhone application samples the music for 5 seconds and if all goes well then it will display the song, artist, and album.
Based on user feedback it seems to work quite well and has even been able to give information on Brazilian and Old Swiss songs.
However, do remember the native iPhone application is still in beta so don't expect it to work all the time, though Erica seems to be rolling out newer versions (meaning more stable and improved versions) of the app at a fast clip (as I write this post she has already released Listen Beta 3).

Wow, this is freakin' cool.
Just installed and tried it. First song I held it up to was a Mozart piece…the phone crashed and rebooted itself (hard). I guess it doesn't like Mozart, LOL.
Did 10 different test songs of varying genres over XM radio, including some foreign language stuff. It identified all songs correctly, but hung the application without crashing the iPhone on the 8th song I tried.
Sony already has this, huh? Shocking that Apple didn't think of it first…perfect feature, listen to a song, identify it, mark it for purchase in iTunes on next sync if wireless iTunes store isn't available.
By far one of the coolest apps for the iphone. Been using it and its worked flawlessly.

I have so far got 99% of songs i have tried….this works perfect for me and notice it works especially well during lyrics….i notice that it only actually works when there is vocals….could be just a coincidence….

works great for me on rap stations, 96.5 koit, and even spanish music lol
This is hands-down one of the best apps yet for the iphone. I can't belive how accurate it is. Keep up the good work Erica. We appreciate it.

when i try to download the beta 6 it says "safari cant download this file." what am i doing wrong
just installed it. awesome!!! seems to work around 90% of the time. want to try it out in different environments (car, radio, etc.). totally have had this need at times.
great app i tested it on 25 and it crashed one time and it identified 23 songs!!!! cool app!!!

Also, i know this is a complete subject change, but i just found in itunes, if you have your number displayed in itunes and you click phone number, it changes to your imei, then something else. and if you click version, it changes too!!! Probably the oldest trick in the book, but i just found it!

I installed the app through installer and I've been having the same problem as Alex. Every time I try to use it, it listens then says connecting to server… then says connection failed. I dunno whats wrong, any help or comments would be appreciated.
I tried this, but the Artist and Song were displayed as "this service is for Sony Ericsson users". Or something like that.
I am using the beta 6 and same problem as the last few comments. It samples for five seconds, then goes to connecting, then connection failed. Then it resets itself to "Push to start sampling"
Someone mentioned that a Sony Ericsson account for the music recognition service was used. If so it's probably a matter of time before they change things to close Listen down. True, it can then be adapted to the new circumstances, and we're back to the cat-and-mouse chase between hackers and OEMs…

I downloaded it and everything…managed to put it in my iPhone…and wen i click on the application, all it gives me is a blank white screen ???? disapointing!!! Some body please help me out with this so i can enjoy it as well

RadioTAGr tells you! You can see what is currently playing on the radio from your phone (mobile device) …
And SO COOL … you can save (TAG) the song into your RadioTAGr account !
Later you can buy it from iTunes or just remember your tune (-:
