Apple seems to be making the headlines this week, it was only yesterday that that Apple had released iPhone Firmware update 1.1.4 and today we have News.com reporting that the Apple is planning the much awaited iPhone SDK event on March 6.
Apple is apparently distributing invitation cards since today morning for "an iPhone software road map" event.
This means we should be finally getting details for Third-Party Applications to be officially released for the iPhone.
The "iPhone software road map" event is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, at 10 a.m. PST at its headquarters in Cupertino.
So going back to the news I had reported regarding Apple's announcement of the SDK release few months back, it didn't seem like the platform will be completely open, it is expected that Apple might go the Nokia way of allowing only those applications to be installed on the iPhone that have a digital signature so that it can be traced back to a known developer which in my opinion is a reasonable approach to protect users from malicious programs.
At that time I had also mentioned that the SDK was definitely a step in the right direction by Apple instead of keeping the iPhone as a closed platform as the SDK could make it possibly the best mobile platform ever created for developers and could be a game-changer.
So I am very excited and can't wait to see the official Third-party iPhone applications that will be released post the SDK, as we have already seen what the brilliant iPhone hacking community have been able to achieve without an SDK.
Apple has also mentioned that we can expect details on "some exciting new enterprise features," which probably means that there could be some news on iPhone being able to receive BlackBerry-like "push" email from Microsoft Exchange servers, which is critical for business users as many big companies use Exchange for their email.
Hey g rod, thanks for the tip!
