The iPhone Dev Team has achieved the unthinkable, after released a video to demonstrate a method to Jailbreak iPhone via iTunes and then revealing some interesting details about their "Pwnage Project", today they have gone a step further by revealing that they have hacked the iPhone firmware 2.0 beta that comes with the iPhone SDK and have modified it to unlock the iPhone to work with any carrier and run any application.
As I had reported earlier the iPhone Dev Team are calling their new jailbreaking method the "Pwnage Project". Here is what they have to say about the project "Pwnage is based on an exploit found in the lower levels of the iPhone/iTouch bootloader. We can now “pwn” Apple by patching the device to allow unsigned code. This opens the door to unlimited possibilities."
Today they have gone on to inform us what the unlimited possibilities could be such as including the installation of both official and unofficial apps, and even patches.
They are also claiming that it will be very difficult for Apple to fix the issue, this is what they have to say:
"pwned firmware means it’s custom [firmware], you can have it install anything you would ever want 🙂 Pwned works with some magic, it will be hard to close but nothing is impossible (from Apple) with a mindtwist."
You can checkout the "This is a Pwned iPhone" YouTube video below which confirms their claim:
They are also claiming to have the custom iPhone firmware 2.0 up and running without problems in many of their iPhones, running unsigned applications without any problem. So in essence this means you will be able to run the official iPhone applications along with the unauthorized iPhone applications so in short the iPhone hacking community are indeed back in business (that is if there was any doubt). They have also been able to unlock the not-yet released firmware to work with any carrier.
However, they also tell Gizmodo that the cool Installer app will need changes as they stress that Apple seems to have made changes to a lots of API. It will be interesting to see how Apple reacts to this as they
will definitely look to fix the exploit in upcoming firmware releases which has made all this possible.
Anyway, if you have an iPhone running firmware 1.1.4 and want to jailbreak it then you can check out the Step-By-Step Guide to JailBreak iPhone Firmware 1.1.4 using ZiPhone.Gizmodo]
