Apple has released the latest beta version of the iPhone SDK, build 9M2192 Beta 6 and the iPhone experts have again found something interesting to report to confirm the news reported couple of weeks back here at iPhone Hacks that the 3G iPhone is coming soon.
Everytime there is a new release or build of iPhone SDK, iPhone experts have been able to find out some hidden feature or clue to 3G iPhone in the pre-release iPhone firmware 2.0 that comes bundled with the SDK which is expected to be released in June.
This time too they have found that Apple had added couple of warning strings if a user tries to turn 3G on or off during an active phone call:
- "Disabling 3G will end your phone call. Are you sure you want to disable 3G?"
- "Enabling 3G will end your phone call. Are you sure you want to enable 3G?"
This seems to be an extension of the 3G feature based on the preference screen that allows users of the new model to disable the 3G Radio and fall back to GPRS/EDGE because the faster service "decreases battery life" that was revealed in the pre-release iPhone firmware 2.0 bundled with the previous iPhone SDK beta version and further confirms the news that 3G iPhone will be announced by Steve Jobs at the WWDC 2008 Keynote on June 9th.
The details of other six beta versions are available below:
- iPhone SDK beta
- iPhone SDK beta 2
- iPhone SDK beta 3
- iPhone SDK beta 4
- iPhone SDK beta 5
- iPhone SDK beta 6
The pre-release iPhone firmware 2.0 has already revealed some interesting features:
- Chinese Handwriting Recognition Feature
- Ability to Save Images from Email Attachments
- Save Images straight from iPhone's Safari browser
- Contact Search and Embedded YouTube Support coming to the iPhone
- Live Location Tracking feature & Improves Javascript Performance
- Import SIM Contacts feature
Based on what we have seen so far; it will be great to know if you plan to update to iPhone firmware 2.0 when it is released in June.

What next?
I'll be updating to 2.0 once its jailbroken…
with no doubt I will upgrade to 2.0
Hopefully there is a trade for old and new iPhones
same here. I will upgrade when either jailbreaking or pwning does the job. I'll also change phones if I'm not forced to renew my contract for another 2 years YET AGAIN (nor will I buy one from ebay without a contract that will cost me $100~$200 more than a store purchace)
But this piece of news confirmed 1 thing for me… the 3g phones can fall back to edge! I was worried about that because there is no 3g where I'm at but there is 30 minutes away where I go shopping quite often.
I found this website that i linked to my name above actually found them in facebook, just click on my name to go there, dont worry, you dont need to be a facebook member. They had me up and running in no time and i now have complete access to their Apple developers account with my own user ID and password. They have links to the newest beta firmware for pc's and mac as well as iTunes 8.2 links. It was worth it, just my 2 cents for anyone who is in the same boat i was.
