Native iPhone App - Instinctiv Shuffle enhances iPhone's Music Shuffle feature

If you are tired of creating your own playlists (like I am) and not too happy with the standard shuffle feature available in the iPhone as you end up skipping through too many songs to enjoy music based on your mood then Instinctiv Shuffle is the native iPhone application you should check out.
You can get all the details about Instinctiv Shuffle after the jump.
Instinctiv Shuffle is developed by Instinctiv, a startup founded by Justin Smithline and Peter Brodsky (who had sent me an email earlier in the week to give an inside scoop of their app).
TechCrunch reports that they have raised $750,000 from Cayuga Venture Fund, Rosetech Ventures and a group of angel investors so far.
The problem with iPhone's standard shuffle feature is that you end up skipping through many songs to enjoy the music based on your mood.
Instinctiv is trying to address this problem with their instinctive technology, which learns what you want, when you want it, based only on your everyday, existing behaviors.
If you are wondering how it works, here is a quick outline of the steps that their application takes (as per their FAQ) to "understand" you and select just the right songs at the right moment:
- The application gathers information on the names of your songs and their associated playback.
- It then uploads the data to their server via a secure and anonymous connection
- They analyze the music data and returns information to your iPhone, enabling your formerly random shuffle to determine the perfect songs for you.
- It continually gets better, learning about you and your preferences based on the songs you are skipping through and the ones you are actually listening to.
Instinctiv Shuffle is a native iPhone application, so to check it out you will need a jailbroken iPhone. Once you have installed the native iPhone app via the Installer App, you will need to launch the application from the home screen and toggle the Smart Shuffle option to "ON". This results in the Shuffle option in your iPhone's iPod app to change to "Instinctiv Shuffle" instead of "Shuffle" (simple and neat way to enable the feature) as can be seen in the screenshots below.
Based on my brief test run today, the application worked quite well as I seemed to have skipped less number of songs than I normally do while using the standard shuffle feature.
Instinctiv will not releasing Instinctiv Shuffle via the AppStore as they found iPhone's SDK to be useless to them as it doesn't provide a way for applications to access the music library.
You can also checkout their cool YouTube commercial to highlight why their app is a must-have for your iPhone/iPod Touch.
As always do let us know your feedback on Instinctiv Shuffle in the comments section below.
