If you are a Windows users and haven't tried the methods to pwn the first generation iPhone running iPhone firmware 2.0 or jailbreak iPhone 3G or facing an issue with it or are simply looking for an easy to use tool like iPhone Dev Team's Pwnage Tool as they are not for the faint hearted then the good news is WinPwn, the Windows version of the Pwnage Tool 2.0 is now available.
The iPhone Dev Team released their Pwnage Tool 2.0 to jailbreak, unlock and activate iPhone only for Mac users late last week.
The windows version of the Pwnage Tool i.e. WinPwn was still not available at that time. So some clever folks over at iUnlocked.org figured out a way to pwn the first generation iPhone running iPhone firmware 2.0 using Windows.
However, it was not for the faint hearted, so if you are looking for an easy to use tool to jailbreak, unlock and activate your first generation iPhone or jailbreak iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.0 then Windows users can now checkout WinPwn, the Windows versions of the Pwnage Tool 2.0.
Here are some of the features of WinPwn 2.0:
- Support for both iPhone firmware 1.1.4 and 2.0.
- Custom Image Support.
- Custom Payload Support.
- 3G iPhone Support.
They have also provided some instructions on how to use it:
- First create a custom IPSW using the IPSW Builder.
- Click "Ipwner" and browse for the custom IPSW that you just created. This will pwn itunes and allow you to flash Custom IPSW files via DFU mode.
- Once you have pwned iTunes, put your phone into DFU mode. You can follow these steps to achieve this:
- Connect your iPhone to your computer.
- Turn iPhone off.
- Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
- Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
- At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.
- Once you are in DFU mode ITunes will pop up and then you can hold shift and click restore and browse to your custom IPSW file.
Before you use WinPwn 2.0, do make sure that:
- Please ensure WinPwn 1.0 has been completely removed if you have installed it earlier as installing on top of WinPwn 1.0 seems to be causing problems.
- You also need to make sure that you have iTunes 7.7 to work for it to work.
As always do remember, hacking your iPhone is at your own risk and don't forget its always a good idea to backup your iPhone.

WinPwn 2.0.0.2 has just been released. It fixes the following issues:
- Cydia/XP/Writing root FS bug.
- Failed to remove ipsw directory after a ipswBuild failure.
- iPwner now only accepts custom ipsws.
- Remove 345 ipsw support. WinPwn only supports 347 2.0 ipsw's.
- Various other fixes.
You should download WinPwn Tool from WinPwn's blog to ensure you download the latest version.

How can I run the IPSW builder? I can't select it on the program
Im having a problem. I was one of the people that upgraded by accident to firmware 2.0 on the first day of the official firmware release.Whe i create my custom ipsw file it works all fine and well and so does ipwnr. But when i restore to the custom firmware i get errors 1600,1601,and 1602. Ive uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it. What am i doing wrong?

this DFU mode you speak of…my Sleep/Awake button doesn't work all the time, so this is a big problem for me. Would later updates to WinPwn or something like iLiberty let me just skip setting the phone into DFU mode manually? because i'm not sure if i even can.

Go to http://www.devteam.webs.com and download the firmware you need for your iphone. Then go back to winpwn and browse for that firmware and it should recognize your phone. Then follow this guide step for step and youll be fine. I screwed up on my first try and I just restored it and its fine.
WinPwn 2.0.0.2 was just released!!! That might fix some problems.
After 2 weeks I can finally use my iphone 2g with 2.0. WinPwn 2.0.0.2 worked great. Although with WinPwn 2.0.0.1 I did run into some errors like the #6, that was fixed with the latest WinPwn 2.0.0.2.

so far so good….i finally got the ipwned logo….hopefully i finished well.
I just finished jailbreaking my phone, it took me a little over 1 hr, and for the most part it went well. I followed the guide and I got a little confused with the step to get itunes Pwnd; I believe the screen shot is in the wrong place. Other than that, I got an error with the BootNeuter, but I ignored it and there it was. My phone is now Jailbroken with the Cydia icon… As a side note, most of the applications found in the "Installer" are not available yet, so don't expect to have all customizations, games, and apps you used to have right away… GREAT WORK!!
So can you still use the itunes app store once jailbroken, in addition to installer / cydia?

It is wonderfull and great. Well done iPhone Dev Team. I have MAC and Windows both. ipsw file was created quite easily but i was having trouble restoring using i tunes. tranferred my file to PC and it was restored wihtout a problem.

I have been waiting for WinPwn now for awhile and am excited to see it released, but when it loads the images fail to DL and the only buttons lit up are Browse for IPSW and Help. Do I need to DL a IPSW first and store it? Or is there something wrong either with my copy or with what I am doing?

I attempted to use the WinPwn 2.0.0.3 on a 2G version with 2.0 firmaware and found that it got stuck in the "recovery mode" with the connection and the Itunes icons showing. It could not be turned off to try to get into the dfu mode. the only way I was able to break this trapped recovery mode was to use iLiberty software and the advanced tools portion which includeds a tool to remove the iphone from the recovery mode. It worked and I could then turn the iphone off and I used iliberty to place the 1.1.4. software on it and the cydia installer. I then got rid of the phone. I am now wanting to place a jailbroken and unlocked version of 2.0 firmware on a 16G origial 2G version iPhone but I don't want to have this one "trapped" in recovery as I did the 8G one. It appears that others have found their iphone trapped in the recovery mode from the comments I see. How can we assure that this will not be a problem, and will I need to restore the 2.0 software to the 16G? It seems to me that if we are preparing a custom version of the 2.0 software using Winpwn 2.0.0.3 and upgrading the phone with this custom version, I could just upgrade this 16G (which now has the 1.1.4 unlocked) and the result would be a 16B which is in 2.0 software and is unlocked and jailbroken capable of using the App store or the installation programs. That is where I want to be. Should I place the custom ipsw on this phone without restoring to 2.0 software and will I have the "trapped" recovery mode issue all over again?
I NEED help! I've jailbroken my iphone 3g successfully and went to do some openssh work on it and have failed. I can't get it to connect. I've installed openssh on both the iphone and my PC, connected the iphone to my laptop, have both connected to the same wireless connection, typed in all the info correctly but it just times out and won't connect. I've tried multiple times but always the same. What are the possible problems and solutions??? Nothing I've read or watched says anything about it. All I want is custom tones for text and voicemail and this is the only way I know how to do it.

I winpwned my 3G iPhone and everyone worked great. Used Customize to change everything except wallpaper which isnt supported yet through customize. Used winterboard to change Wallpaper. iPhone looks awesome. Definately recommend to everyone to pwn your iphone/itouch
To Gervais I had no problem SSH into my 3G and btw there are lots of custom sounds in customize. Just go to themes and files sets. Then you can change them in customize.
