More Solutions to Fix iPhone Apps Crashing Issue

Many iPhone users have reported that some iPhone apps crash and do not launch after updating to iPhone firmware 2.0.2.

If you are one of them, then here are some solutions that you might want to try out to fix the problem.

iPhone users have observed an annoying problem after upgrading to iPhone firmware 2.0.2, in which some iPhone apps crash and do not launch.

You can checkout one of the following solutions to resolve the application crashing issues:

Erase and Re-Download the iPhone apps:

Since this could be very well due to DRM issues after the update, the simplest solution is to erase the affected applications one at a time and then re-download it which should correct the DRM issues.

Downgrade iTunes:

Some iPhone users have found that downgrading to iTunes 7.7.0 for Windows or 7.6.2 for Mac and re-syncing the iPhone helps in resolving the problem. You can follow this process:

1. Delete all iPhone apps from your iPhone, a quick way to do would be to go to Settings, General, Reset, and Erase All Content and Settings.
2. Disconnect your iPhone and restart it.
3. Delete iTunes from your system.
4. Downloaded iTunes (7.7.0 for Windows, 7.6.2 for Mac).
5. Reinstall iTunes.
6. Connect your iPhone.
7. Selected the Applications Tab and checked “Sync Applications”.

Re-Download iPhone firmware 2.0.2 again:

You can delete the update file located in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates under Mac OS X or C:/documents and settings/[yourusername]/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPhone Software in Windows.

Connect your iPhone to your computer then select “Restore” in iTunes. When prompted, choose to set up the device as a new iPhone.

Reduce the number of iPhone apps:

Some iPhone users have observed that reducing the number of iPhone apps installed on the iPhone also helps in resolving the problem (for example: one of iPhone Atlas reader writes that reducing the number of iPhone apps from 6 pages to 3 pages helped resolve the problem). This is not a desirable solution but until Apple provides a fix for the problem this could be a temporary workaround.

Restore iPhone as a New iPhone

You can use this if the solutions mentioned above have not helped as this would result in losing your personal data.

Connect your iPhone to your computer then select “Restore” in iTunes. When prompted, choose to set up the device as a new phone.

Wait till September for Apple to release a permanent fix

One of AppleInsider's readers claims that after he contacted Apple about iPhone app crashing problem, he received a response from Steve Jobs himself:

"This is a known iPhone bug that is being fixed in the next software update in September."
