“I Am Rich” App: The most ridiculous iPhone app removed from App Store [Updated]

We have seen NullRiver's NetShare that briefly brought 3G/EDGE Tethering for iPhone and also the popular from the Box Office, a popular iPhone app that gave showtimes for your area disappear from App Store.

It appears another iPhone App "I Am Rich" has been removed from the App Store and this time I don't think anyone will care as it should ideally have not made it to the App Store in the first place.

Armin Heinrich had released an app on the iTunes App Store called "I Am Rich". for $999.99.

All the iPhone app did was display a red gem on the iPhone and iPod touch and nothing else as can be seen below. The description of the iPhone App in iTunes read:

"The red icon on your iPhone or iPod touch always reminds you (and others when you show it to them) that you were rich enough to afford this.

It's a work of art with no hidden function at all."

iPhone app - I am Rich

The iPhone App has been removed now, we are not sure if it was Apple or Armin who removed it. Though the question is how this application made it to the App Store in the first place as Apple is manually approving the applications.

I will keep you posted if we get to know any more details. But lets hope this remains the most ridiculous iPhone app ever created for a long long time.

Your thoughts?

Update (Aug 7th, 2008):

If you were wondering whether anyone bought this iPhone App, then the answer is shockingly "YES", some guy actually bought the $999..99, "I am rich" iPhone App. As you can see from the screenshot below he goes on to tell his story on how it all happened.

Why wouldn't this app be allowed? Yes, it is stupid but it does nothing bad and does not break any rule. You are paying $1k for nothing, but this should be your choice, not apple's. Apple app store suc ks.

  3. Syam says:

"Apple is manually approving the applications." Psshhhh….don't be ridiculous. Apple has a life, and it doesn't include manually checking for apps. Thats what the automated computers are for….

An app I recently downloaded called 3-tuple has also been removed from the app store.

  10. Steve Straw says:

This app deserves to be on app store. I think it's funny and why cant Paris Hilton or others of the sort add a little screen bling to their phone?

  11. Chad from Chad says:

I'm not sure what JBooby is talking about. I bought it and it still works on my iPhone. It's not bad. I think it brings good luck. The day after I bought it I won $10,000 on scratch and win so it was worth it to me.

  12. JDiz says:

i have no problem with this app. If someone wants to buy something just because it costs a lot, then feel free. Think about all the crazy auctions on ebay – ebay doesn't take them down if they aren't illegal.

  18. Friendly neighbor says:

I too cannot understant if this application breaks any law. Guy who accidentaly bought it should just take things more seriously. What happened, might happen with any application regardless of its usability (if any).

  19. John says:

If you want more info in this LAME app, go to wikipedia and search it. Also, 8 people bought it while it was avalible.

  20. qwe says:

This man is a looser who can’t afford such app.
