Quake for JailBroken iPhone now available on Cydia Installer

We had reported in April that the iPhone hacking community had ported Quake to the iPhone. However at that time there were no details available on how to install it.

We finally have news that Quake for iPhone is now available on Cydia Installer which should make it easy to install it on a jailbroken iPhone.

Quake does not need much introduction, its one of the most popular first-person shooter computer game and has been developed by game developer id Software.

The iPhone hacking community has ported the game to iPhone firmware 2.0. They have also made it available on Cydia Installer, the unofficial native iPhone apps installer for the jailbroken iPhone, just like the Installer app and equivalent to the App Store for official iPhone applications. Cydia should make it easy for users to install Quake on their jailbroken iPhones.

Partrick at JustAnotheriPhoneBlog.com has managed to play Quake on the iPhone and had this to say about the native iPhone game:

"I’ve only tried the game out briefly today, but it plays well so far.  There is an Options area (which I found a little difficult to work with), sound and music, and very little lag when playing.  Main thing, it’s quite playable - moving around and firing are easy to do.

It doesn’t make use of the accelerometer - but if you’re a Quake fan, this is a good bit of Sunday fun for sure."

You can see the video clip of the game running on the iPhone (or maybe its an iPod Touch):

id Software is also planning to develop an exclusive game for iPhone so we could see the official version of 3D shooter games such as Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein available on the App Store sometime in the near future.

If you have managed to get the native iPhone game to work on your iPhone, then it will be interesting to know if it was fun to play the game on the iPhone.
