One of the most popular native iPhone apps for the jailbroken iPhone running firmware 1.x was Snapture which we had reviewed back in April.
Snapture brought professional features such as Digital zoom, delay timer etc to iPhone’s very basic camera app.
Bowei Gai, founder of the Snapture had sent us an email to let us know that they had recently released an updated version of Snapture. The latest version seems to be even better and works with iPhone firmware 2.x.
iPhone’s camera is one of the most basic digital camera’s out there and unfortunately Apple did not make any improvements to the camera in iPhone 3G.
The initial version of Snapture had brought quite a few features of a digital camera that were missing in iPhone’s camera app such as 3x digital zoom, delay timer, toggle auto rotation, burst mode, color modes, leveler etc.
The latest version of Snapture works with iPhone (or iPhone 3G) running iPhone firmware 2.x. They have also introduced a new QuickView system which allows users to view and delete recent pictures directly on the viewfinder. Bowei claims that the feature would cut the average photo taking session in half. As seen in the video below it seems like a really cool feature to navigate through your recent pictures as you no longer need to exit from the camera app and go to the camera roll to access them. Unfortuntely the feature is available in the premium version of the app.
The user interface of the native iPhone app is also quite sleek and intuitive and in many ways Apple-like.
Snapture 2.0 is available in two versions: Snapture Basic which is free but ad supported and Snapture Premium which is ad free and includes the QuickView feature costs $7.99.
You can watch the video demonstration of Snapture to get an overview:
SnaptureLabs has recently released Snapture 2.1 which is now compatible with iPhone firmware 2.1.
It will be great to hear your feedback on the iPhone camera app in the comments.
Thanks Bowie for the heads up.[via Snapture]
