Track Hurricane Gustav on your iPhone with Weather Underground's iPhone Web App

Forecasters say Hurricane Gustav has become a very dangerous storm with winds increasing to 195 kilometers an hour making it a Category 3 storm and could grow even more powerful before striking western Cuba on Saturday.

They say the storm may strike the southern U.S. anywhere from western Florida to Texas.

If you are wondering what has that got to do with an iPhone than it is because Weather Underground has just released an iPhone-specific version of their mobile site that includes a tropical storm tracker so that you can track Hurricane Gustav on your iPhone.

Weather Underground has announced the launch of a Tropical section for iPhone users. The service enables iPhone users to access a wide range of hurricane tracking maps including 5-day forecast maps, computer model maps, satellite maps, wind maps and historical maps. iPhone users also can access text advisories by state and city.

Alan Steremberg, President and co-founder of Weather Underground said:

“We have brought the product to market as quickly as possible in light of the active hurricane season we are experiencing in the Atlantic this year.

People in areas threatened by severe tropical weather can use the new iPhone service, along with our regular mobile site, to keep themselves and their families safe when they don’t have access to a computer.”

As seen in the screen shot above, Weather Underground's iPhone web app is best viewed in full-screen by flipping to landscape mode.

To track Hurricane Gustav, point your iPhone's Safari browser to http://i.wund.com/tropical/ and then tap on Hurricane Gustav.

If you are an iPhone user and live anywhere from western Florida to Texas where the forecasters say the storm may strike, you might want to add Weather Underground's iPhone web app to your Home screen (Tap the Add (+) button in iPhone Safari and Select "Add to Home Screen" from the menu options).

Please take care and be safe!
