AT&T Plans to Integrate U-verse with iPhone; Developing Remote Control iPhone App

iPhone App - Flutter

AT&T, exclusive carrier of Apple's iPhone in US, plans to integrate U-verse, its high-speed Internet and video service with the iPhone.

AT&T Chief Technology Officer John Donovan said "We're looking at the whole landscape, of what people use, and what's out there in the home".

He made this announcement at a conference where AT&T was showcasing some recently developed technologies which will allow consumers to use their phones, computer and television in more interesting ways.

U-verse is service from AT&T which combines high-speed Internet, built-in wireless networking, packages of up to over 300 TV channels, high definition TV service, built-in digital video recording, and other options. It currently requires a set-top-box and costs from $69 to $124 per month based on the number of television channels customers want to receive.

AT&T's said that this initiative will ultimately allow U-verse subscribers to listen to their iPhone's voicemail on their TVs or download shows from their DVRs to their iPhones.

AT&T is also looking at developing a remote control iPhone application in the lines of Apple's Remote app so that users can control their DVRs from the iPhone.

One of the problems is that U-verse is just not widely available, however we hear AT&T is working on expanding the coverage.

It will be interesting to see if iPhone users will switch to U-verse for such features (assuming of course that it's available in their area).

What do you think? Will you?
