iPhone Firmware 2.2 Reveals Tweaks to App Store Application

iPhone App Store

iPhone Firmware 2.2 that was seeded to developers of the iPhone Developer program recently has already revealed a minor tweak to iPhone's Safari browser.

That's not the only change, developers are reporting that they have observed couple of changes to iPhone's App Store application shipping with the first beta version of iPhone firmware 2.2.

We could see a new categories page that will feature large category icons and more generous spacing between each listing as seen in the screen shot below.

As seen in the screen shot below, Apple appears to have also tweaked display pages for individual iPhone apps, shifting the "Tell a Friend" option from the title bar to just below the reviews summary, and adding a "Report a Problem" function that will allow users to report a problem with an application.

I would love to see further improvements in letting us organize apps better for those without jailbreak apps like Categories.

  2. Jaybee says:

Texting should be enhanced with a few more features such as:
    * begin able to delete a single message in a conversation
    * option to "Start new conversation from here" effectively splitting a conversation in two at the selected message
    * copy a message to the Calendar (perfect for reminders)
    * send and receive contacts/VCards

  3. Ted says:

    3 words: copy and paste

  4. Greg says:

    Video recording!!

PATHETIC. Not only they are not addressing important issues (copy-paste, MMS, etc) but they spend time to make these minor minor minor changes in the applications interface? That is really STUPID. (furthermore, is it me only that thinks that the changes are for the worse? e.g. the appstore shows more information in 2.1 than in 2.2)

If you're gonna mess with the App Store, then AT LEAST give us a couple sorting options within the categories. Like, sort by popularity, rating, date added, etc.

    Seems obvious, and easy.

Well, To all the people bitching about MMS, Copy and Paste and Video Recording, one word, JAILBREAK.

Seems to me that there is a fix or at least a beta on all of these things.

I need new features though, Not crapy UI tweaks.

Even with Jailbreak your iPhone, there is still NO MMS (SwirlyMMS does not work for AT&T users) or Copy / Paste. At least we do have video recording, but NO WAY TO EMAIL them…and no, having to SSH them off the phone is not really an acceptable option for general users. Not to mention what a pain in the ARS it is to update to new firmwares and retain your non-official apps and data.

    FLASH!
