O'reilly has announced that iPhone Hacking and forensic expert, Jonathan Zdziarski will be doing a live 45-minute webcast on Sept. 11, that will guide iPhone users through the steps that are apparently used by law enforcement agencies to bypass the iPhone 3G's passcode lock by creating a custom firmware bundle.
So if you are interested in recovering or removing sensitive data stored on your iPhone then you should not miss the free live webcast in which Zdziarski will be breaking iPhone security to show you how its done.
Jonathan Zdziarski better known as “NerveGas” in the iPhone hacking community has published the iPhone Open Application Development book to develop unofficial native iPhone applications using the iPhone open source tool chain and is also the author of iPhone Forensics. He had recently ported the iPhone Open Source Tool chain to iPhone firmware 2.0.
Jonathan was the first to develop a native iPhone application that takes full advantage of the major iPhone APIs with NES.app for iPhone firmware 1.x , a portable Nintendo Entertainment System emulator which he has successfully ported to iPhone firmware 2.0.
He had recently discovered a remote URL which suggested that Apple has included a kill-switch mechanism in iPhone firmware 2.0 to deactivate malicious iPhone apps already installed on the iPhone during his forensic examination of iPhone 3G. Steve Jobs had later in an interview with Wall Street Journal confirmed the existence of the kill-switch.
The webcast is primarily aimed at law enforcement agencies to perform forensics on iPhones and iPod touches dropped by criminals so that they can recover, process and remove sensitive data from said devices.
However, if you are curious to find out how to recover or remove sensitive data from your iPhone then you can also view the free live webcast on Sept. 11, 2008 at 17:00 GMT, by registering here.

Is it just me, or is it ironic that he chose sept 11th as the date? I guess its fitting, considering all the privacy invasion bills being named after the infamous date. Just one more tool law inforcement has to read your emails etc., so it might as well have some association with 9/11 just like all the other tools in their arsenal. I should probably stop talking like a conspiracy theorist living in the past…
Dylan: Don't worry your tinfoil hat is effecting Homeland Security's reception with your iPhone… But not our ability to read your mind. Good Idea about the 9/11 connection, wish we had thought of that.
Dylan, is there actually anyone still believing all the BS about airliners hijacked by 19 fanatics? Incredible. Where do you live, guys, where do you live…
Hummm. If you backup the phone do a restore sometimes when the phone is activated the defaults will disable the passcode protection.
Then you just slid to unlock.
No custom firmware needed….
Or if the iphone is jailbroken just ssh into phone using cyberduck and remove all the sooo called sensitive data.
All in all seem interesting…will watch it on youtube.
Haha youre right KS, its surprising how many people still believe we were attacked by kamikaze hijacked 747s. Almost as silly as that rumor the Jews made up about that whole Holocaust thing.
