CopierciN brings Copy & Paste Feature to the iPhone (Kind of)

Native iPhone App - CopierciN

CopierciN is the latest attempt to bring Copy & Paste feature to the iPhone between applications (kind of) which has been surprisingly missing ever since the launch of the 1st generation iPhone.

It has been developed by a Turkish developer who apparently has just taught himself how to program in Objective C.

Hit the Continue link to get all the details.

We have already seen quite a neat implementation of the Copy and Paste feature by MagicPad's developers which only had one drawback that was it worked only within the MagicPad application (as expected).

We also have a workaround in the form of iCopy by Preston Monroe who had developed a bookmarklet called iCopy that gives you the ability to copy and paste text or URLs within Safari on the iPhone.

CopierciN is the latest attempt to bring the missing feature to iPhone users, but it does not add copy & paste functionality directly to other applications. Its a text editor which also includes an importer/exporter mechanism which allows iPhone users to import text from and export text to SMS, Notes and Mail applications.

It is a native iPhone application  that can be installed only on a jailbroken iPhone using Cydia, the installer application for the unofficial iPhone apps (under BigBoss repository, in Utilities section).

Here is how it works:

CopierciN essentially consists of two parts, a basic text editor and an importer/exporter mechanism. In the text editor, you can select a piece of text using your finger, cut or copy it, and paste it to a selected location. To select the text, press the finger at the location where you want to begin selecting and wait until the magnifier appears, move your finger and release it when you are done. You can then use the copy or cut buttons at the top.

Now, if you want to paste the copied text from the clipboard to iPhone's SMS, Notes or Mail applications, tap on the Menu button to open up the import/export menu. You can select one of the export options to open a new SMS, Note or Mail which will copy the content from the clipboard on to it.

If you want to copy content from an SMS, Note or Mail, you need to use the appropriate import options in the import/export menu.

You can checkout the video of the iPhone app to get an overview:

The developer plans to bring this feature to applications like Contacts and Safari as well in future releases. He is also planning to develop a clipboard framework like OpenClip.

CopierciN is not the ideal copy and paste functionality we have been waiting for but it appears to be a decent stopgap solution until Apple releases the feature in future firmware updates.

Please do remember that the application is still in beta so could be buggy.

  2. achex says:

Here is just an iPhone trick, I don't know if you guys know about this already, but the iPhone calculator changes into a scientific calculator, if you turn the iPhone to landscap position.

  3. Scott is Stupid says:

    WOW…Scott Thanks a Million!

  4. I agree...Scott is an Idiot says:

The fact of the matter, Scott, is that it is very hard to implement this on this particular operating system. Because of the "sandbox" programming regime, applications can only 'see' their own files.

  5. Goudy says:

Oh..thanks to that developer, finally we got that but…why did it take sooooo long? What was the problem with that?

i tried out the app imo it sucks but thanks for trying.

Hey guys look again. That was achex who posted the cool calculator trick. Poor scott only questioned Apple's inability to implement the software onto the iPhone. Anyways, is it possible to even have a copy/paste program if the phone can't share files? I think Apple should approve this clipboard method and put it in either the next update or at least the app store.

sms wont open on 3g fw 2.0
