Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner, co-founder and CEO of Opera told New York Times in an interview that a version of Opera Mini developed for the iPhone was rejected by Apple from the App Store.

The iPhone version of Opera Mini would have been a direct competitor to iPhone’s Safari browser.

It has been a while since we have last heard of an iPhone App getting rejected from the App Store.

When we had heard of Earthscape’s 3D Earth application, we had mentioned that it was the perfect application to take advantage of iPhone’s accelerometer and touchscreen capabilities.

Unfortunately, we were so disappointed with the first version of their iPhone app that we neither bothered to review the iPhone app when it was released nor did we bother to check out if there were updates.

However, at that time we had also asked the question why didn’t someone think of this before? The obvious answer to that question would have been Google to bring their Google Earth app to the iPhone and that’s exactly what they have done by releasing Google Earth for iPhone.
