Midomi Allows you to Search Music Using your Voice by Singing or Humming

iPhone App - Midomi

Have you heard a song on the radio that you liked and can't figure out the name of the song or artist?

Last time we had posed this question, we had recommended that you can checkout Shazam, a song recognition application for the iPhone.

But what if you had heard a song somewhere (which you can sing or hum) and you are trying to figure out the name and artist of the song?

Midomi, another iPhone app that can help you out in such situations. Midomi, from Melodis, is an alternative to Shazam and probably the only iPhone application that allows you to search for music using your voice by singing or humming.

Shazam provides a very simple interface with a single Tag button. It is designed to focus on one thing - Search music and it does a good job of it.

Midomi also offers a friendly interface but with more options. After launching Midomi, by default, it'll show the "Grab" screen. To search for music, tap the large search button and hold your iPhone to the music source for around 10 seconds (in some cases it takes 30 seconds). Midomi will look up its music database.

If the search returns any result, you can tap on the result to get more details of the song such as the artist, the name of the song and the album along with its album clip art. You also have an iTunes link to buy the song and a link to view related music videos. Further, you can bookmark or share the song with others. Midomi also offers a lot of information about the artist and the album.

Sometimes, you have a song in your mind that you might have heard somewhere (which you can sing or hum) and you are trying to figure out the name and artist of the song so that you can buy it. Midomi lets you search for music using your voice by singing or humming.

In the Sing screen, tap the large button and sing the song. Midomi will then look up all the possible matches. Midomi also lets you search for a particular song by typing in the song name or artist or even its lyrics. You can also talk into the iPhone and let Midomi search for the song.

Midomi is a free iPhone application. And you can download it from iTunes with this direct link.

Midomi has lot more features than Shazam and currently our preferred music search app for the iPhone.

What do you think about Midomi? Do you think Midomi is a better music search application than Shazam? As always, please leave your comments below.
