Xbox 360 Chatpad Hacked to Work As iPhone Keyboard

Dr. Ralf Ackermann's iPhone Keyboard hack

We had reported last week about a hacker who had taken his jailbroken iPhone and hacked it by wiring it up to a physical keyboard.

Things seem to be going out of control as we now have another example.

Dr. Ralf Ackermann has successfully paired an Apple iPhone with an Xbox 360 Chatpad using a low-power XBee wireless module.

As you might have guessed he has been able to achieve this using a jailbroken iPhone. The hack is still work in progress and Dr. Ackerman plans to use a VNC server running on the iPhone to feed keyboard input to any iPhone app.

As you can see from the setup, it definitely doesn't seem to be for the faint hearted.

Actually, if Apple ever needed a sign to release an iPhone with a physical keyboard then this has to be it.

Its not because we think the iPhone needs a physical keyboard (if you have used it long enough you will not feel the need), or we fear it might lose market share to TMobile's G1; its because we don't want the iPhone to lose its tag as the Jesusphone.

Folks, what do you think?
