New Results Pages makes Google Search Even Easier to Use on the iPhone

New Google Search Pages

In case you haven't noticed it, Google released New Google search results pages which have been optimized for the iPhone on Tuesday.

If you are in the US and go to google.com on your iPhone and do a search, you will now see Google search pages that are better optimized for the iPhone.

The highlights of the optimized search pages are mentioned below:

  • The search page neatly organizes the results making them more easily viewable on the iPhone's screen rather than the web page that is seen when you do a search on the computer. So you no longer need to scroll from side to side and eliminates the white spaces and the need to zoom to read the text.
  • Local search results now include "Get Directions" and click-to-call links making it easier to launch iPhone's Google map application or to make calls directly from the search results page.
  • The "Images", "Local" and "News" pages are also better laid out in the optimized version of Google search pages.
  • The optimized Google Search home page also includes suggestion history which offers relevant suggested search terms in real time as you're typing into the search box.

In case you want to go back to the classic desktop search results format, you can click on the "Classic" link at the bottom of each page.

You can checkout the video of the new Google search pages below:

The new Google search pages are currently available only in U.S. English and for iPhone running firmware version 2.x. Unfortunately, the new search pages do not show up if you use iPhone's Safari browser’s built-in Google search. So to access the new search pages, you need to either go to http://www.google.com on your iPhone if you are in the US or http://m.google.com and tap on "Search" if you are outside US.

Google has mentioned that they will make the newly formatted results pages available through other search entry points on the iPhone and in more language and country combinations over time. Lets hope the issue with the entry point from Safari browser’s built-in Google search is addressed in the soon-to-be-released iPhone firmware 2.2.

Google Engineers have done a good job with the new search results pages. It makes Google Search even easier to use on the iPhone
