Say Who Brings Voice-Dialing to the iPhone for Free

iPhone app review - Say Who

One of the complaints about the iPhone from some users is its lack of voice-dialing capabilities.

Dial Directions, a startup that provides the platform for voice-activated mobile services and devices  has released their free voice-dialing iPhone App called Say Who to address this shortcoming of the iPhone.

Speech recognition is becoming a standard feature in most mobile phones these days. It makes it easier to find and dial a number from your iPhone's address book and also improves the safety of using the iPhone while driving.

Say Who is developed by Dial Directions, a startup that provides the platform for voice-activated mobile services and devices.

iPhone app review - Say Who

The iPhone app has a simple user interface, all you need to do is tap down the "Press while speaking" button and say any name in the contact list or the phone number. Once you release the button, the app will find the contact, display the contact or the number and automatically dial it if "Auto Dial" feature is turned on (its turned on by default).

Based on initial tests and user reviews, Say Who seems to be quite accuracy. The thing that I really liked about the iPhone app is that it does not need any training or need you to record voice samples. I have always been averse to using speech recognition apps as it takes time to train them to their optimal ability.

As per the iPhone apps FAQ, it appears that it needs network connectivity for it to work, they explain:

"To achieve best accuracy, the voice-entry applications use powerful speech recognition technology that requires more processing power than the phone can handle. As such, we do use the network to send over what you said and perform the recognition on our servers. For Say Who, we only use the names in your contacts to compare your recording to, and no other data is utilized."

They go on to clarify that no data is ever stored on their servers.

You can watch the video demo of the iPhone app to get an overview:

Say Who is available for free and you can download it from this iTunes link.

Unfortunately, Say Who is currently available only in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK and US.

Please give us your feedback on the iPhone app. Is Say Who the best voice-dialing iPhone app? Tell us in the comments below.
