Amazon Releases its iPhone App - Amazon Mobile just in time for the Holiday Season

Amazon's iPhone App - Amazon Mobile

Amazon which already had an iPhone optimized website has recently released their iPhone app - Amazon Mobile just in time for the holiday season.

Amazon's iPhone app provides users with an easier and seamless shopping experience on their iPhone.

Users can use Amazon Mobile to quickly browse or search for products, access product related information, read customer reviews and purchase products using Amazon's trademark 1-click shopping directly on their iPhone.

The iPhone app's user interface is very clean and easy to use. The application is also quite responsive. When you do a product search, you get the results within two to three seconds. And, unlike its mobile website, your shopping cart is always accessible through the navigation menu at bottom.

If you are an Amazon customer, you will also have full access to the wish lists, payment and shipping options, order history etc.

Apart from these standard features, Amazon Mobile offers "Amazon Remembers" which is the slickest part of the iPhone app.

“Amazon Remembers helps customers keep track of items they see in their daily lives and even tries to match photos of products to the same or similar products available on Amazon.com. Customers simply snap photos with their iPhone, the photos are automatically uploaded to Amazon.com, which then tries to find products similar to the ones in the photos. As soon as the customer receives the results, they can then purchase the item immediately or “remember it” for later in their Amazon account. lets you save snapshots as visual post-its if you see something you want to buy later. The app saves the photo and searches for similar items, too.”

I took a photo of my SDLR camera using Amazon Remembers and in few minutes, I got a link to the Amazon product page for that item.

Snaptell, another iPhone (which I will review shortly) offers a similar product search functionality across multiple sites and is based on a much sophisticated image recognition technology which gives you results instantly whereas Amazon seems to use people in their back office to match the image people have uploaded to a product.

The downside of Amazon's approach is that it is slower but the upside is that you can upload a photo of just about anything and its also more accurate. With its huge user base and integrated 1-click purchase, Amazon Mobile is in a very good position to lure more mobile shoppers.

If you are planning to buy something for Christmas while you're on-the-go, you should definitely checkout Amazon Mobile on your iPhone. You can download it for free using this iTunes link.

As always, please don't forget to drop us a line to tell us about your thoughts on Amazon's iPhone app.
