iMobileCinema Allows Playback of Embedded Flash Videos on your iPhone

Support for Adobe's Flash is one of the most requested features by iPhone users since its launch.

iMobileCinema, a jailbreak iPhone app has just been released for iPhone firmware 2.2 which allows playback of flash videos embedded in web pages on your iPhone.

iMobileCinema is a Safari plugin which allows playback of flash videos embedded in web pages on your iPhone.

It currently supports sites like YouTube, Google Video and the developers of iMobileCinema are currently working to provide support for many more websites.

You can checkout the demo video of iMobileCinema below:

I tried this out on Google Video and YouTube and it seemed to work quite well on pages that have a single embedded video. But I would recommend you to avoid installing it for now as the beta version appears to be quite buggy and seems to mess up mobile version of websites which have multiple embedded videos. Here are some of the known bugs:

1. Dragging the seek slider while playing cause crash.

2. Pausing or rebuffering may cause no audio.

3. Not response on the gravity inducer.

However, if you are the adventurous types then you will need a jailbroken iPhone to install iMobileCinema. On your jailbroken iPhone, just add http://d.imobilecinema.com or http://d.imobilecinema.com/repository.xml to your sources in Cydia and install iMobileCinema.

I got URL not found quite a few times, so you might need to try adding the URL multiple times to add the resources successfully. Also remember to restart your iPhone's Safari browser to get this going.

As always, let us know how it goes in the comments below.

This is really cool, very essential to web surfing these days. I hope they release the final version soon. Thanks

  2. Awayze says:

Still buggy but at least theirs an add-on for Safari that supports flv. Now just for Java and Flash apps to come to iPhone.
Adobe and Sun Microsystems(w/e they called) should just develop for jailbroken iPhones.

  3. guftelicious says:

Try vtap.com on your iphone. Really cool webapp for watching and downloading either only audio or both audio/video from Youtube, Google Video and others !!!!!

  5. InSovietRussiaPhoneEyesYou says:

I tried this and it seemed to be broken somehow. All the icons for embedded videos were HUGE, to the point where they were overlapping and made it basically useless. In addition it seemed unable to actually stream anything. I'll wait til they get the final version out.

  6. jaylou180 says:

I just downloaded and tried this app. It works very well, but not compatible with several website. At lease this is a start. I cant wait until the release of the full version

I d/l'd it. Accurate description, Iphonehacks. It's very buggy, works a fraction of the time. If you want to kill time, great, but it's not functionally usable yet.

That being said, I'm super glad someone tackled this problem!! Thanks! Just not quite prime-time ready.

Perhaps I am missing something but the iphone can easily watch videos on youtube and on google video without apps like this…..

    can someone clarify?

  11. JaredF says:

Ammending a previous comment, it has had a version release update. Improved. I would now recommend trying it. Not perfect, but works now and is definately beneficial.

does anyone know why I can't install imobilecinema on my jailbroken? iphone 3gs with 3.1.2 firmware? I tried installing and removing a bunch of times but it doesn't seem to work. i get errors like cache failed and can't find host or something like that.

  16. CasualSoul says:

iPhone partnered with YouTube to provide a special iPhone app. Literally millions of web sites use flash and you cannot currently see this content on a iPhone that doesn't have this app installed. Steve jobs is dropping the ball on this one

  17. bobby says:

hi, i have the 3.1.3 version and used spirit to jailbreak…i put in the correct url in cydia for imobillecinema and it fails every time….any suggestions?

  18. D says:

Keep trying it will eventually let you in. Must be an issue with server traffic. I downloaded it on 3.1.3 yesterday and works but not all flash sites

  19. lol says:

imobilecinema is pointless on 3.1.3………….ur phone already plays all that video……
