A new patent application filed by Apple at US Patent Office reveals that it is researching the use of ambient sound sensors to automatically adjust volume of the iPhone based on the level of ambient noise.
Another patent application details methods of cleaning jacks in portable electronics such the iPhone that may have accumulated some debris from everyday use.
Ambient Sound Sensors:
Apple's patent on ambient sound sensors was filed in July 2007 patent application and credited to illumination specialist Peter Mahowald. It states:
This could be used to automatically adjust
volume of the iPhone based on the level of ambient noise.
Self-Cleansing Audio Jacks:
Another patent application details methods of cleaning jacks in portable electronics such the iPhone that may have accumulated some debris from everyday use. One method would be to make a hollow plug that fits into the jack through which compressed air can be released with enough space around the sides to allow the debris to be released.
Another method would be to make an adapter plug that can rotate freely through the application of compressed air.
