Leaked Photos of New iPhone?

iPod Observer has just posted a photo and are claiming to it be the back cover of the new iPhone about which we have heard quite a few rumors since Macworld 2009.

The photo reveals that the new iPhone case would sheds its shiny black finish for a matte look.

Last year, iPod Observer were responsible for posting the first leaked image of Apple's iPhone 3G which had turned out to be spot on.

They wrote on their blog about the leaked photos:

"Apple may be preparing to roll out an updated version of its 16GB iPhone 3G. An image showing a new case back seems to back up rumors that an iPhone update is on the way thanks to its model number, A1303, which previously hasn't appeared on any iPhone model.

The new iPhone case back appears to shed its glossy appearance for a matte black look, and also sports what may be etched markings which indicates the plastic used in the current iPhone 3G model may be dumped in favor of a metal back -- much like the first generation iPhone."

Interestingly, MacRumors has also received additional photos claiming to be that of the new iPhone which appears to be from the same series. They can be seen below:

The images of the back cover of the new iPhone have apparently originated from China and is said to be textured for better gripping.

It goes without saying that like any leaked photos, the photos are difficult to authenticate.

So assuming that these are the photos of the new iPhone, what do you think about the matte look? Do you prefer it over the shiny black finish of  iPhone 3G?

Dont like it, i will prefer that the new iphone have the same metal case of the ipod touch 2g.

  2. Kwopau says:

I wouldn't want an iphone with a shine metal chrome it's back just like ipod touch, and other ipods, for 1. it scratches easily, and I do not want to have scratches on them. 2. Even getting a case will not protect the back at all. No matter how hard you try to baby it, at some point you will have scratches no matter what.

I prefer having a matte back. or what iphone 1st gen. is using.

  3. Kwopau says:

It would be cool to have this kind on the back, this way, it's more scratch proof and not have to worry about getting cases.

  4. Kevin Harter says:

Am I the only one that LIKED the original iPhone's metal back? My 2G broke and I was forced to get a new one – decided to go with the 3G. I like it, but the back is HORRIBLY covered with fingerprints all the time. Got a case just to cover it!

  5. Will says:

If this is true, there's still no hope for a built-in flash.

  6. Jonny H says:

I think I like the shiny look better. But whatever. I'm more excited about new and better hardware features.

  7. Gray says:

The ideal iPhone would be aluminum and black
Just like the new nano silver/black

    Black apple logo then silver
    Very similar to the 2g
    But a more shiny silver/grey

  8. house says:

Love it. Not going to have fingerprints on it the whole time and will feel nicer, and probably remains cooler coz the iphone 3g gets warm quickly. Also not likely to break either.
and remember the first leaked iphone 3g photos? they were the real or closest ones i recall, so fingers crossed that this is it

  9. Brett says:

I am sick of my iphones. The 2g and the 3g. Always freezing up, no MMS, texting with the AT&T network is slow. So I'm going to get a Sony Xperia x1. Screw you iPhone!

  10. marcus says:

lol brett why are u on this site if ur phone aint jailbroke, I have had mms messaging since the 3rd day of having my iphone 3g thanks to this site, and i dont have many freezing up problems maybe happen once or 2x in over a month

  11. Tiffany says:

I think the new matte finish would be great. It wouldnt show all the fingerprints & i wouldnt have to worry about dropping mine as much because it wont be as slippery. I love carrying mine around i my back pocket & it wont fit with a case. If the new iphone is matte then it all ready has some grip to it & i wont worry about dropping it so much and it'll still fit in my pocket

  12. Brett says:

I'm jailbroken but i got AT&T which wont let me have MMS. Yeah I know there are ways around it but, I'm just gonna go with the Xperia… unless Apple comes out with the "iPhone Pro"

  13. pedro says:

sorry to be off topic, by why is the original iphone called "2g"? the edge network is actually 2.75g, falling in between the old 2.5g and current 3g networks.

  14. Your MMS messages are being blocked by AT&T because Apple told them to do that. The Xperia is based on Windows Mobile which guarantees disappointment. There is absolutely nothing on the market that competes with the iPhone 3g. The Google phone is garbage. The Nokia n96 is a downgrade from the n95 which is a great phone but is -not- on par with the iPhone 3g.

The fact that MMS doesn't work is purely down to the MMS gateway throwing a 403 error when you try to send messages. This means that your account is blocked from doing so. This is a matter of software and settings –an iPhone "pro" would make no difference. Once Apple/AT&T allow MMS for the iphone then you will have it.

  15. Brett says:

I would think it is because it is the old iphone and it got the nick name "2g" because of the new "3g"

  16. pedro says:

so what happens when the one coming out in june is also on the 3g network? we wouldn't call it 4g if it's using a 3g network, will we?

  17. Rob says:

i'm going to put a case on it anyway…so not too concerned with the finish of the back of the phone

  18. Brad says:

it looks similar to the Dare's back casing. I hope it's the soft touch kind of feel!

  19. Connor says:

I think this is a nice idea but it wont work. I have a dell inspiron 1525 with a ruby red matte finish and as soon as you touch it with wet; or anyhting on your fingers, it is marked. And these marks are very hard to get rid of

  20. Andy says:

oh dont worry…. the 3g gets an update in the summer to use mms …… DAMN APPLE! iphone v1 should be able to use it too!

  21. Marc says:

I like the original iPhone's backing. I never owned the first one but I guess it was easily scratched, at least compared to the newer ones they have. I wouldn't mind seeing that metal backing again.

  22. mg says:

i hope they still change! their should be a flash and more gigs on the photo their was 16 GB i hope they get up to 32 GB

  23. Kizzle says:

Just get the "InvisibleShield" It's unscratchable and if it does get a scratch you can go back cause it has lifetime guarantee.

  24. Austin g says:

i think it would be sick if they used like a brushed nickle case. that way, no fingerprints or scratches because it's brushed. don't know if they could make that black though

  25. Z says:

    i REALLY hope its rubberized

  26. abbas says:

crystal clear leaked picture of the new iphone http://iphonenokia.blogspot.com/2010/01/there-have-been-some-leaked-images.html you can get a clear image for wat u lookin

  27. Chuk Thunder says:

"InvisibleShield" is how I went but it made it hard to add a hard shell later. I like the idea of matte finish myself.
