Step-by-Step Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G running Firmware 2.2.1 using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 (Windows)

if you want to update your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2.1 but at the same time preserve its baseband so that you can also unlock it then you should follow our step-by-step guide to use Dev Team's PwnageTool.

But If you don't want to unlock your iPhone 3G now or anytime in the future and only want to jailbreak it to install jailbreak iPhone apps then you can update your iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2.1 using iTunes and then use QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 to jailbreak it.

Here is our step-by-step guide to jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows users updated for iPhone firmware 2.2.1.

Some important points to note before we start:

  • Hacking your iPhone 3G could void its warranty.
  • This guide is to jailbreak iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.2.1.

Preparatory steps before jailbreaking your iPhone 3G.

1. Please take a backup of your iPhone, refer to this post for more details.

2. Please ensure that you have upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.0.2.

3. Please download QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows from any of these links and unzip its contents in a folder:

4. Please download firmware 2.2.1 for iPhone 3G using this link.
5. You need to install .Net Framework runtimes and associated files
(if not already installed) for Quickpwn to work. You can download it
from Microsoft's site.

If your iPhone 3G firmware Version is 2.2.1 (5H11) and Modem Firmware is 02.30.03 then you are ready to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, you can skip directly to "Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn" below.

If you want to update your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2.1 then you can
follow the steps mentioned below ("Update your iPhone 3G to iPhone
Firmware 2.2.1").

Update your iPhone 3G to iPhone Firmware 2.2.1:

  1. Please note this method does NOT preserve the baseband,
so by updating to iPhone firmware 2.2.1 using this method will result in your iPhone
3G's baseband will also get updated from 02.28.00 to 02.30.03. Dev Team's software unlocking application yellowsn0w does NOT work with baseband 02.30.03, it only works with baseband 02.28.00.
  2. Connect your iPhone 3G to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes and select your iPhone.

  3. Hold the SHIFT key and click the “Restore” button. iTunes will launch a file dialog for you to select the firmware file. Locate the iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw file that you have downloaded in step 5 of the preparatory steps and click “Open”.

  4. iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 2.2.1 which takes sometime, please wait for the process to complete.

Once your iPhone 3G is updated to iPhone firmware 2.2.1, you are ready to use the QuickPwn tool to jailbreak it.

Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2:

  1. Launch QuickPwn from the unzipped folder to start jailbreaking your iPhone 3G.
  2. Please ensure that your iPhone 3G is connected to your computer. QuickPwn will automatically detect it and enable the blue arrow button, click it to continue.

  3. In the next screen, click browse and select the iPhone firmware 2.2.1 that you had downloaded in step 5 of the preparatory steps and click Open.

  4. QuickPwn will check if the firmware file selected is the same as the one installed on your iPhone 3G, if valid it will enable the blue arrow button, click it to continue.

  5. In the next screen, you will be prompted to install Cydia, Installer (both are preselected) and if you would like to Replace the Boot Logos. Install both Cydia and Installer as you will need it to install Dev team's unlock yellowsn0w application and also to install jailbreak apps.

  6. QuickPwn will again prompt you to ensure that your iPhone 3G is connected to your computer via USB, click the blue arrow button to continue.

  7. QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

  8. Its important that you follow the instructions carefully, if it does not work and get an error message then try again, once your iPhone 3G is in DFU mode QuickPwn will start the jailbreaking process.

  9. QuickPwn will inform you as soon as the jailbreaking process is successfully completed.

  10. After your iPhone 3G reboots, it will be jailbroken and will have Cydia and Installer apps installed and visible on your iPhone's home screen.

As always, don't forget to drop us a line to tell us how it goes.

Hi I jailbreak went fine. But all apps I installed I can't open for some reason. I used instalous to download and installed those apps. BeejiveIM can't be opened, but I can change the setting in the setting app. what I did wrong?

  • iPhoneUser9800

Nothing, i've had the same problem w/ 2.2.1
IT SUCKS!! Ur better off just going bck to 2.2 because none of the jailbroke apps download or work right.

  • fff

    Hi,
Didn't work for me as well. Will wait for dev team make progress and unlock 2.2.1. Good luck guys….

  • Geogo3r

Probably try rolling it back. iPhone Hacks has a tutorial on it but I'd just buy the app. I know its expensive but chances are, your getting your music for free and most else so why not just pay a little ;)
If not, wait for an update for Installous.
What Repo offers Installous? I can never find it. (Just out of curiousity)

  • Geogo3r

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    What was the issue?

  • Geogo3r

Uhhh… I just upgraded to 2.2.1 and the Dev Team has unlocked it, you just need to find an .ipsw that preserves the baseband.

  • Pedro Rivera

Hey my iphone stay only in reboot mode after trying to jailbreak! how can i fix my phone? it does not work anymore i need help…..

  • Geogo3r

Only thing I can think of to do is hold down the home and hold/power button until it reboots. Whats on the screen when its frozen? A Pineapple or is it the regular apple?
Also… Did you get the .ipsw from apple or did you get it elsewhere?

  • Zed Sefi

DevTeam will never release PwnageTool for Windows users. They didn't do that since their latest Windows edition for FW 2.0 and we have been waiting for long time to get this and it didn't come out!

I guess my only hope is to find a preserved ipsw files that was created on a MAC. Here we go again, how can we trust any ipsw that's said to be preserved when we find its torrent file? And No, I don't have any friend who got a MAC.

This is so depressing but I still appreciate the amazing work that DevTeam have done for all of us.

  • Stargateonly

Hi, I got the same problem after jailbreaking. The reboot just stay there with an apple logo and never seems to go away nor reboot itself….the whole jailbreak just freeze with an apple logo. Who else have encountered the same problem?

  • geogo3r

Same question. Where did you get your .ipsw?

  • Metal Man 71

After trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2.1 (5G77) and upon reboot it was stuck at the 'Apple' screen. I tried pressing the home key quickly once or twice which didn't work. I tried holding the home key for about 4 seconds which didn't have any immediate result. Then I held the power button for about 2 seconds. This last seemed to do the trick and I got the lock screen.

Everything on the phone worked fine except for two things. First the Phone app. was broken. It would start but then after 1 second it would die even if I didn't touch it. Second, every time I rebooted the phone it would get stuck with the Apple diplayed.
About the 5th time I happened to reboot I couldn't get it past that screen.

So, I followed the restore procedure (Hold home button for 5 seconds, hold home and power for 10, hold home for 30) and did a shift-resture in iTunes to put the original firmware back. During this process it seemed to save a copy of my firmware. I don't know if this was the original firmware or the jailbroken one that it was replacing. It also told me there was an update and asked if I wanted to replace that. I said yes.

After much waiting (iTunes takes a lot longer to restore the firmware then QuickPwn took to replace it.) I had a phone with the original applications and my custom settings. It didn't have my third-party applications because I had turned off the auto-sync before this whole process and I hadn't done a sync after the restore.

All good, my phone was usable again. I then went through the jailbreak process again, with SUCCESS (Yeah!). I now have a jailbroken iPhone.

So, two things are different, I went through the iTunes update firmware process and I had it install the new firmware [2.2.1 (5H11)]. This past Sunday, this page said that the process worked with firmware 2.2.1 (5G77) but, it now says to use 5H11. I don't know if Dev. Team always just recommend the latest version. But, it is possible that this jailbreak worked with earlier shipped versions of the 5G77 firmware but that Apple then made a change so that the later ones don't work (I just bought my phone Dec. 26th.) If this is true then version 5G77 may or may not work. But, it seems that upgrading to 5H11 is a much more certain route.

  • Raks

Hi everyone ive just bought an iphone3g and just want to jailbreak, dont need to unlock. should i update to 2.2 or 2.2.1 firmware. By the way im on XP. Do i need .net frameworks and so on??

    Please help!

    thanks

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    Hey Metal Man,

There has been no change on this page. iPhone firmware 2.2 was 5G77 and
    firmware 2.2.1 is 5H11.

Which version of QuickPwn were you using 2.2.1 or 2.2.5-2? Had you upgraded
to firmware 2.2.1 before using QuickPwn? That might help in solving the
    puzzle.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    Hey Stargateonly,

Had you upgraded to firmware 2.2.1 before using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2?

  • Stargateonly

    Geogo3r & iphonehack,
I have downloaded n upgraded the firmware to 2.2.1 from apple itune before using the QuickPwn 2.2.5-2. I have also downloaded the .ipsw from the iphonehack site and followed all the steps in performing the jailbreak. so what is missing??
My friend have done the same and encountered the same problem.
Maybe the instruction need to be more clear, especially towards the end of the process.
Since then, I have managed to reboot and install back to the original (before jailbreak ) status and get back all my datas/contacts. Will wait for a more stable jailbreak firmware before doing it again.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    Hey Stargateonly,

That's strange, can you tell me which step do you get stuck?

Did you get past step 7, 8 and 9?

  • Stargateonly

    Hi anyone,
After hearing so much about the jailbreaking, how do we know whether the iphone is lock or unlock?

Is jailbreaking possible to perform despite the iphone is in lock or unlock status?

If jailbreaking can only perform on a unlocked set, then could the jailbreaking process include a check item to confirm the phone is lock or unlock status before performing the rest of the process.

    Please comment.
    Thanks.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    There is no such restriction.

You need to jailbreak your iPhone first to unlock.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

Using this guide you first upgrade to the latest firmware.

It does not matter if you have unlocked your iPhone or jailbroken it.

After upgrading you need to use tools like QuickPwn to jailbreak it.

  • Stargateonly

    hi iphonehacks,
    Thks for the advise.

So what might have gone wrong in the jailbreak of 2.2.1 version?
Why is it that when it comes to the last stage of reboot that the apple logo keeps appearing in the Home screen?
Something wrong with the QuickPwn 2.2.5-2?

Currently have the latest firmware 2.2.1(5H11)with Modem FW 02.30.03.

    Please enlighten.

  • 500modder

Think I posted this on the wrong page before:
I bought an UNLOCKED iPhone 3G and updated it with with firmware version 2.2.1 (5H11) and modem firmware 02.30.03. If I jailbreak my phone using QuickPwn, will it still remain unlocked?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

Dev Team's yellowsn0w application cannot unlock baseband 02.30.03.

You can only use QuickPwn to jailbreak iPhone 3G.

Ideally you should have used their PwnageTool to update your iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2.1, it would have jailbroken it and also preserved it's baseband.

You need to tell us at which step you hit the problem to be able to figure out your problem.

  • 500modder

I didn't unlock my phone – I bought it factory unlocked and then updated it to firmware version 2.2.1 (5H11) and modem firmware 02.30.03. I just want to ensure that my phone REMAINS UNLOCKED after I jailbreak it with QuickPwn.

  • Jackdaw

Be very careful trying this. I did it, and did it right, and it still didn't work. You can get your iPhone working again though, see http://www.creationrobot.com/2009/02/recover-your-iphone/

  • Adnan Khilari

    Hi,

i am having the same problem with the apple logo appearing constantly, i just wanted to know, that i have never back up my data, and did the restore back it for you in the whole the process, bcuz u mentioned that you got ur custom settings back…
so will it automatically back up the data for me???

  • Ash

    Hi All,
I have just "jailbreaked" my iPhone. All went well. I was very worried though once it rebooted, as i lost all contacts, settings, photos, sms's and all apps i had installed.

I reconnected it to iTunes and clicked "Restore" hoping everything would come back, and it did, except for the music i had, which isn't a problem, as it is easily reinstalled.

The only reason i wanted to jailbreak the phone was so i could forward sms messages. I can now using Bitesms. Plus there is so much more including ringtones etc.. that install immediatly.

I'm in Australia using the Optus network. All is working fine. I dont know what the installer does at this stage, but Cydia is great.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    Hey Adnan,

What do you mean you have never back up your data, whenever you connect your
iPhone to your computer, iTunes takes a backup automatically.

So when you restore your iPhone from the backup, you will get your personal
    data and settings.

  • Stargateonly

    Hi Adnan,
I got the apple logo all the time after the jailbreak is done. I tried to reset it many times but of no avail. only finally that during the constant resetting of the power button that it starts to store. And that's where I restore back to my original state of 2.2.1 firmware setting.
I have tried jailbreaking twice and same problem occurred with the Apple logo hangs there with 2 days of un-usable phones.
Anyway, something must have gone wrong during the process. For now, my iphone is still not jailbreak.
During restoring, you have an option to choose a new clean restore which restore everything in the set or restore back to your last sync stage.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    Hey Raks,

You can upgrade your iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2.1 using iTunes if you don't
    want to unlock it.

You can then using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows to jaibreak your iPhone 3G
running firmware 2.2.1. You need .net frameworks installed on your computer
    for QuickPwn to work.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

    Hey Stargateonly,

Here are some solutions/workarounds that seem to have helped some users
resolve the issue you had reported:

The way it worked for me is when stuck at boot logo i opened itunes with the
phone stuck then put in recovery by holding home and power at same time till
it shuts off like normal reset but keep holding them let go of power for 2-3
sec dont let go of home though. Itunes should find it after 10-15 sec after
letting go of power but still holding home. (same process quickpwn requires
to jailbreak) Of course this requires a restore afterward so i dont know if
this is the route you might want to take and i had to set up as new without
syncing anything until after i jailbroke.

    Link for your reference:
    http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-modifications/stuck-on-apple-boot-logo-after-jailbreak-quickpwn-2-2-a-39626.html

Well after many jailbreaks, and many hours stuck on apple logo, and many
restores later, i found out what i was doing wrong.
Well after every un successfull jailbreak, i would restore and sync all my
things onto my ipod touch 2.2 again and than jailbreak and fail.. all over
again 5 times. But today, i decided after restoring, i wouldnt sync anything
so my ipod would be jailbreaked empty. I did it and it worked! My ipod
started up normall after jailbreak. Now, i'm going to sync all my things
    back again.

    Link for your reference:
    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119318

As soon as the quickpwn steps were over…i disconnected the phone from the
usb cable. restarted itunes, and then replugged my iphone again…i think
that helped too after reading it somewhere.
give it a go., it worked for me!!!!!

  • 500modder

Ok so I went ahead and used QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows on my factory unlocked iphone. And it seems to have worked. I followed the directions above to a tee – except for one thing – in step number 3 of the jailbreak procedure it says "In the next screen, click browse and select the iPhone firmware 2.2.1 that you had downloaded in step 5 of the preparatory steps and click Open." But I had not updated my iPhone with this file (I had updated to firmware version 2.2.1 (5H11), modem firmware 02.30.03 through the update link on iTunes and backed up my iphone). So when I got to this stage quickpawn automatically selected the .ipsw file that was stored in itunes. I went with this selection instead of the downloaded .ipsw file as it seemed the more logical choice and since I wasn't trying to preserve the baseband anyway. It worked – and my phone is still unlocked!

  • concius

i have tried several times to jailbreak my iphone without success. i have the ipsw from here but it will not restore on my iphone, i get error 1602. how can i restore with the ipsw from here?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p011278d8af9528a4 CatsFan03

I've done all as asked. Unfortunately QuickPwn will NOT recognize my phone at all. iTunes is finding without problem. Rolling back to my old restore until I can get QuickPwn to work. Ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Pipe

I have bought iPhone yesterday from my friend. It is 5G77 and 02.28.00 and already activated. I tried to jailbreak the iPhone but unfortunately, I made a wrong process. I downloaded

    iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw

and tried to follow the procedure. Actually, I can skip to start at QuickPwn but I just hold SHIFT Key and restore my iPhone which was unnecessary….T_T
Now, it's not fine because it shows that I have to insert an UNLOCK SIM to activate the phone but I didn't have it. So, is there any suggestion for my issue?

    Thank you

  • Amit

I have the exact same problem, the jailbreak completes successfully and the phone goes into reboot mode, it just never starts back up and stays stuck at the apple logo screen, no matter what you do, it doesnt go past this stage. One thing to note that i didnt check the "replace boot logs" while jailbreaking. Im on the latest 2.2.1 firmware and latest baseband 02.30.03. Please advise.

  • sam

    Hi

I have updated the firmware to 2.2.1 but can jailbreak it but cannot unlock it..can anyone suggest:)

But it will not downgrade the baseband. There is no method available to
    downgrade the baseband.

I have an iphone 3G Version 2.2.1 (5H11) with a Modem FirmWare 02.20.03. Will the jailbreak work successfully if I use QuickPwn 2.2.5-2? or do I need to use QuickPwn 2.2.1? I am on AT&T and will like to continue with my same carrier with the same service, should I take the sim card out while I am jailbreaking? or it doesnt matter?

  • CROCK3

APPLE logo will not go away, and iTunes will not allow me to restore iPhone after I Jailbroke. It keeps giving me 2 vibrating tones about every 5 mins. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p011278dd85d328a4 johnni0

For those who are having trouble with the freezing on the apple icon.

First, restore to the 2.2.1 firmware.
Second, make sure you don't have any apps, music, photos, or videos.
    Third, JAILBREAK IT!

lol. I thought my iPhone 3G was stupid or something but it just turns out of have too much stuff on there. So, my point to this is the less stuff the faster the reboot. I took everything off and the reboot was less than 2 seconds. But, when I had all my apps, videos, etc. I kept getting stuck at the apple icon reboot for like ages.

Just a little tip you might want to try. If it works for you too, then AWESOME! Have fun with your iPhone or iTouch which ever you have.

    xD

  • nanoBLAST

Works Absolutely fine for me… just jailbroken my £G with 2.2.1 firmware, and everything is perfect… and I even noticed it works faster than before

Tap Tap Revenge 2 was lagging even with easy tracks and now it runs smoothly even with extreme tracks

    Perfect job :D

  • Jack

I tried and it worked 1st time. Thanks very much. I got stuck at Apple logo for about 30-45 minutes. May be I have lots of Apps that's why it took so long. After I hear cling-cling sounds as if windows detects something, i turned on iTunes. iTunes froze about 5 minutes then iPhone is back to normal….Yeahhh!!!

  • :)

mine jailbroke succssfully. :) thank you so much!

  • Bobby

Tried to jailbreak under Mac OS and everything froze up. Used Bootcamp and tried to jailbreak under Windows XP and everything went just fine. Please forgive me Steve.

  • Lee

To all those suffering from the apple / pineapple logo freezing-on-reboot problem:

You MUST restore to 2.2.1, even if the phone / touch already has 2.2.1.

I made this mistake. You must restore, THEN jailbreak.

  • spam@nildram.co.uk

    Hi

I picked up my iphone today and i am trying to jailbreak it but having some issues, itunes says i am running 2.2.1 5h11 i have followed your guide and have downloaded the relevant firmware and this is saved as a zip file, when i use quickpwn it does not allow me to select the file, when i change it from zip to ipsw it allows me to select the file within quickpwn but gives the following error message teh ipsw file you have chosen does not match any firmware version quickpwn supports yada yada.

Any help would be gratefrully appreciated…

  • dave

whenever i go to step 2 of the actual jailbreaking process i click the blue arrow and get this message

"To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled."

i have no idea how to do this haha help

Works like a charm! I just did everything they told me to do, and when it was done, I loaded the backup of my phone I took earlier. Tnx :D

Hello, I managed to jailbreak my iphone 3G but the problem is now, itunes cannot copy my cracked apps I downloaded from appulous. Did I miss anything? Is there a file I should download before itunes could recognise the cracked apps?

  • Melissa

I am trying to jail brake my iphone 3g, I installed everything the firmware twice, I can not find it when the the second screen comes up with the browse option? where did the file go/\

  • The Godfather

For those of you who had their screen frozen after jailbreaking, what I did was download the 2.2.1 from the link on this page that is from Apple. Even though I already had 2.2.1 I figured why not. Then I restored my failed jailbreaked phone with the newly downloaded firmware, but I did not restore the backup. I then jailbreaked with quickpwnd and it worked. As I type, I'm restoring now with my prior backup and it sohuld be just fine and I should have all my contacts etc.

  • lyn-z

this was so easy..worked instantly…i had no trouble what so ever but then again im a pretty technical person.

    This works!!! Thanks soo much!

  • Keith

I was a bit of a wuss about jailbreaking – thanks for holding my hand throughout the process!

    Works perfectly.

  • Jacco

The last solution worked directly. All files and contacts are still here and all apps appear to be working. Great stuff!!

  • Ryan

Hey man, i had the same problem with my iphone. Just leave your phone connected after the new image has been flashed. Give it about 10 seconds then open up itunes. After itunes is opened for about 30 sec(it will appear as if it froze up), your phone will come back to life along with your previously installed apps. Hope this helps some one. Peace and keep real.

  • Sam Chafin

I did this but when i boot it up it does not do any thing but stay at the boot screen. Would someone please tell me what to do.

  • javaman

This don't work. Bricks your iPhone and leaves it with a pineapple logo.

  • Baalroo

It took me two tries to get this to work, this first time she froze on the load up screen (black screen with apple logo). I had to restore it to factory in iTunes, and on the seconde try it worked like a charm.

  • javaman

    Finally some progress.
BTW, when I did this update, it appeared to go through the whole update scenario. Here is what went down:

    (1) On Mac – Sending 018-4443-16.dmg 22531KB
    (2) On Mac – Sending kernelcache,release.s518900x
    (3) On iPhone – Flashing NOR (Running Pineapple logo)
    (4) On iPhone – Installing Bundles
    (5) On iPhone – Syncing Filesystems
    (6) On iPhone – Rebooting
    (7) On iPhone – Pineapple logo!!!! forever

So now some good luck for me. I started with the PC page, then read the Mac page. Luckilly the Mac page had the details of how to put the phone in firmware mode. Turn off device, Turn on device with both power and home for 10 seconds, then release just power while still holding home for another 10 secs. All this while connected to itunes. This allowed me to restore my iphone via itunes to its original appleness. Next, I figure since I am no long en pineapple brick mode, that I should be able to get out of it again if I screw things up again. So this time I skipped the part in this write up where it said:

If your iPhone 3G firmware Version is 2.2.1 (5H11) and Modem Firmware is 02.30.03 then you are ready to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, you can skip directly to "Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn" below.

When I first tried this process, I looked at the about screen in the iPhone and verified that this was true so I skipped straigth to jailbreaking with QuickPwn. Big mistake! Maybe this is not the case for everyone, but this was the case for me. I went ahead and did this file-style firmware update to my iPhone (even though I already had 2.2.1) anyway. Next I did the jailbreak with QuickPwn and badabing … I'm good.

  • reza

why ican't execute the quickpawn program??it says encountered a problem..i've tried in 3 computers..

I ran the Quickpwn.exe again but only went two steps,my phone came back online.
all apps are running, Works fine
    Greaaaate

    Big thanks to Dev Team

  • joe pendlebury

I followed all these steps however once everything had uploaded the phone rebooted as it said it should but it has just stayed on the apple icon it will not start up and it does not appear in itunes so there is nothing i can do, i have tried redoing the process and still no sucsess can anyone offer any support?

  • Marcos

Just a minor suggestion for newbies, just like me (it took me several weeks to figure it out). Firmware is downloaded as .ZIP file. For QuickPwn to accept the firmware bundle, it it necessary to change the file from .ZIP to .IPSW extension (In my case, I did it through Prompt Command). As DOS doesn't seem to accept long file names, I rename the downloaded file in the Windows to "iPhone", then in the Prompt Command rename it to "iPhone.ipsw", and finally rename it in the Windows to "iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore". With this simple procedure, I was able to follow all the instructions of this tutorial.
Now my iPhone is finally jailbroken!
    Thank you veru much!!!

  • Derek Gadey

My Iphone has service threw AT&T. Will jailbreaking my phone kill my service and make my phone useless? I find no information on that in any blogs on the internet.

  • Chao

Thanks, this was awesome. It worked for me on my 3G 2.2.1. The part where you hold the buttons was a little confusing because the prompts came before I counted to the right number of seconds. But it worked. I'm installing apps now. Whoohoo.

  • Alvin

I just bought my iPhone 3G 4 days ago and looking to unlock it. I followed the instructions from A-Z and I keep getting stuck on Step 4 when using QuickPwn when you're actually jailbreaking the iPhone. Mine kept saying: "The IPSW file you selected (iPhone1,1_2.2.1) does not match the firmware version of your device (iPhone1,2_2.2.1). Please note that QuickPwn does not upgrade your firmware, it only jailbreaks whatever firmware you currently have on your device".

My PC spec has the .Net 3.5 SP1, using the QuickPwn 225-2. My iPhone Version is 2.2.1 (5H11) & Modem Firm is 02.30.03.

I've downloaded the iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw from Apple and other sites, but QuickPwn 225-2 is not letting me pass through Step 4. What is going on?

Worked!, after struggling for a few hours

I think this will help people with PC`s

The first thing, with the ipsw and zip problem, just browse for the zip file and copy paste the name in there (iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw.zip) that will work

Second thing, the error “your device has connected in the wrong mode”
Just use another usb port, do not use a usb hub.

can you still make phone calls and send sms if you jail break your iphone

  • Jonathan Chappell

I have unlocked my phone but when I try and make a call it does not give me the options and just goes back to home screen after 5 seconds. Is there some sort of fix. I am using the latest quickpwn225-2.
    Help please.

Are you using an iPhone carrier or trying to use some other carrier?

If you are using some other carrier then you will also need to unlock it.

  • Jonathan

Im not sure what else im supposed to do, I have jailbreaked it and it has given me the two icons cydia and installer. Is there something else I should be down loading, My provider is o2.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/iphonehacks iPhoneHacks

What's the issue? and what did you want to do?

  • Jonathan

At the moment, all I have done is completed the above to jailbreak the phone. I have the 2 applications now on the screen. When I click on the phone Icon to make a call it opens up but there is no words. If I try and make a call it just returns to home screen. After 5 seconds when clicked on the phone Icon again it returns to home screen. I can send and receive texts but not make a call. What am I missing.
    Thanks J

Hi… I have problem with the holding home etc step…
coz idk which power button i should hold… if i hold my pc power button it will shutdown… if i hold the iphone power button it does nothing… and because of my old type keyboard i dont have power-key on my keyboard…

can any1 help me with this problem?

  • ShadyHady

Ok, for those who made the same mistake I did and ended up stuck on the apple logo screen…

I didn't restore the iphone using the downloaded file: iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw

I missed this because this statement wasn't very clear:
"If your iPhone 3G firmware Version is 2.2.1 (5H11) and Modem Firmware is 02.30.03 then you are ready to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, you can skip directly to "Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn" below. "

Anyway, to fix the stuck iphone, you must launch QwickPwn.exe again and run through the steps until you get to the part where you have to hold down the button sequence.

When the QuickPwn screen says that it is putting the iphone into recovery mode, wait for the itunes image to appear on the iphone screen (a usb plug pointing towards the itunes logo) – then pull out the usb connector from the iphone. Launch itunes and then plug the iphone back in. Itunes will recognise the iphone and says it needs to restore it.

Go ahead an restore it and then start the jailbreak process again… BUT MAKE SURE YOU RESTORE THE IPHONE USING THE DOWNLOADED FILE FIRST.

    Hope this helps :)

    Hi,

Is this still valid to jailbreak from 3G firmware Version is 2.2.1 (5H11) and Modem Firmware is 02.30.03?

i cant get over "5sec home-10 sec home/power and 30sec home" phase i did everything over 30 times and i restored my iphone so it should not be any problems and same msg keep comming : "your device has connected in wrong mode. this can be caused by incorrect following of the instructions,or a faulty USB connection.please try again".
i dont think its possible this other solution with faulty usb conn bcus my usb ports are doing just fine and i about incorrect following of the instructions i already said that i tried over 30 times and no good. hope ill get some answers , thanks in advance.

When Iphone hangs at "Wait for your phone to connect in recovery mode…"
    solution:
"iPh0neExpert: I also had this problem. When your running quickpwn and it gets to the point,"Wait for your phone to connect in recovery mode…" just unplug your phone, turn it off, hold the home button, while holding the home button plug it in and wait for the step after the " Hold the home button for 3 seconds " to start following the instructions on the screen. I just tried this for myself and it worked fine." or try restarting phone.
