iPhone vs Asus Netbook Extreme Typing Test in a Rally Car

If you are a long time iPhone user who is used to its on-screen virtual keyboard, you might find the need of a physical keyboard unnecessary.

However, some folks insist that its one of deal breakers. We had already some hacks which have paired an external keyboard with the iPhone.

Folks at Crave have actually pitted the iPhone with its software-based QWERTY keyboard against a Netbook with its full Qwerty keyboard (but with tiny keys) to find out which one is better in terms of mobile productivity.

Apple Releases 4th Beta of iPhone OS 3.0 and Pre-release version of iTunes 8.2: Reveals More Details

Apple has seeded developers of their iPhone Developer Program with the fourth beta version of iPhone OS 3.0 which Apple had previewed in March. The new beta version has revealed some more details of iPhone OS 3.0.

Apple has also released a developer pre-release version of iTunes 8.2, which is required to activate the new beta. MacRumors reader has also discovered references to Blu-Ray data from Gracenote which indicates that iTunes could support Blu-Ray discs.

Apple Working with Verizon on two New iPhone-like devices?

Business Week is reporting that two sources "familiar with the matter” have told them that Apple and Verizon are working on two new iPhone-like devices: one device is a smaller, less expensive version of the current iPhone and the other device termed as a media pad, which would let users listen to music, view photos, and watch high-definition videos and also allows users to make VoIP calls via Wi-Fi.

According to Business Week these new devices could come out as early as this year.

World of Warcraft (WOW) Coming to iPhone?

App Store - 25,000 iPhone apps

There were early rumors about the World of Warcraft (WOW) coming to iPhone but then nothing happened. This time, we have a video that seems more like a beta version of WOW running on the iPhone.

A combination of 11 million WOW gamers and more than 20 million iPhone units could mean that it could be quickly become one of the hottest iPhone games.

App Store Crosses Milestone: One Billion iPhone Apps Downloaded in just 9 months; Announces Contest Winner

Apple had put up a webpage couple of weeks back to countdown the 1 billionth iPhone app downloaded from the App Store.

Apple crossed the milestone of 1 billion iPhone apps downloaded from the App Store couple of days back and has also announced the winner of the promotion they had launced to celebrate this signifcant milestone.

Apple Removes Deeply Offensive iPhone Game "Baby Shaker" from App Store; Issues an Apology for Approving it

We have seen quite a few iPhone apps removed or banned from the App Store by Apple for reasons such as copyright issues, duplicating functionality, offering tethering functionality, based on limited utility, content or materials found objectionable, just a ridiculous app etc.

This time Apple has removed a controversial iPhone game called "Baby Shaker" that generated outrage as the animation in the game suggested that a player was silencing the baby by murdering it as a proper shake caused two large red Xs to appear on the baby's eyes.

Apple has also issued an apology for approving the iPhone game.

Leaked AT&T Memo Compares Apple's iPhone 3G with iPhone Killer - Palm Pre

Folks at PreCentral have got their hands on a leaked internal AT&T memo that compares Apple's iPhone 3G with Palm Pre which is dubbed by many as an iPhone killer.

Based on the internal document it looks like Palm Pre which will be offered exclusive by rival Sprint has got AT&T worried. They had done a similar thing prior to the launch Blackberry Storm.

iPhone OS 3.0 Reveals Possibilities of Voice Control Features?

Couple of patents filed by Apple at US Patent Office had revealed that their research team is working on how to further improve iPhone's user interface based on "User Movements".

In addition to user movements to improve iPhone's user interface, it looks like Apple is also working on voice control features as beta version of iPhone OS 3.0 has provided more evidence of the feature coming in Apple's next generation OS.

AT&T Upgrading Network to 7.2 Mbps for Apple's New iPhone?

We have already heard rumors that AT&T is rolling out a major upgrade to its 3G mobile data services in anticipation of a spike in network traffic from Apple's new iPhone.

An article at Telephony Online confirms that rumor. Its reporting that AT&T is in the process of upgrading its 3G wireless network from the current 3.6 Mbps download standard to 7.2 Mbps.

Apple's Patents Reveal Movement Aware Interface & Video Chat Capabilities

Based on couple of patent applications filed by Apple at US Patent Office, Mac Rumors believes that Apple's research team is working on how to further improve iPhone's user interface based on "User Movements".

Its quite interesting as it could mean that your iPhone might not need pressing of buttons for an action but might just need a simple ‘movement’.

The patent diagram also reveals a front-facing camera which could bring video chat possibilities in Apple's next generation iPhone.
