World of Warcraft (WOW) Coming to iPhone?

App Store - 25,000 iPhone apps

There were early rumors about the World of Warcraft (WOW) coming to iPhone but then nothing happened. This time, we have a video that seems more like a beta version of WOW running on the iPhone.

A combination of 11 million WOW gamers and more than 20 million iPhone units could mean that it could be quickly become one of the hottest iPhone games.

Touch Arcade stumbled upon a video that shows the WOW game running on the iPhone. I am a huge fan of the game and have spent hours and months behind this wicked game. The news that it’s coming on iPhone is enough to revive my damned sole and to go look for another worthy quest! Two Arms!

The credible part to this story comes from the fact that the game is shown to be running on the Vollee client application.

Vollee develops software that enables PC game to be played on mobile devices; it does so by using the VolleeX engine, which converts the audio and video output into streaming video format.

The fact that Vollee is in partnership with Activision Blizzard, Makers of WOW who have announced support for iPhone makes this story even more convincing.

You can checkout the video of WOW running on iPhone:

Bad:

  • Because, this would involve streaming data back and forth between networks – the data transfer would have to be lightning quick in order to prevent any lag in the game play.
  • It would mean a death nail given the battery life of iPhone – even if you play 3 hours of WOW (yes, in China where the game is very popular apparently that’s the maximum number of hours you can spend playing this game), I would assume it would drain the battery.

Good:

  • C’mon! Ablility to play WOW on iPhone anywhere, doesn’t get better than this!

A WOW fan or not, I think this game has the potential to catch the attention of casual gamers and even see the return of some old timers.

As always, please let us know what you think in the comments section.

Thanks Egypt for the tip!
