3G Fuzzyband Downgrader: GUI based Tool Makes it Easy to Downgrade Baseband to 02.28.00 for iPhone 3G Users

3G Fuzzyband Downgrader

Last month, the iPhone hacking community had released a tool called pHaseBanDowngrader to help iPhone 3G users who had accidentally upgraded to iPhone OS 2.2.1 without preserving their baseband to downgrade baseband from 02.30.03 to 02.28.00.

However, the tool had two limitations, it worked with only bootloader version 5.08 and it was only meant for those who were technically inclined as it required some command line work.

w1kedZ (coding) & DHowett (GUI) have just released 3G Fuzzyband Downgrader to address the second issue. It is based on the same exploit in the 5.08 bootloader found by geohotz but comes with a nice and simple GUI.

It also checks the version of bootloader on your iPhone 3G and tells you if you can downgrade the baseband.

Folks at ModMyi who first reported about the tool explain how it works:

1. It verifies your bootloader version and displays it before attempting to downgrade (won't attempt if bootloader isn't 5.08) so it is much safer than other methods.

2. It detects current baseband version, and the patches accordingly...this means it will downgrade any baseband from 2.30 to 4.26.08 (beta 5)

You can checkout the screenshots below:

3G Fuzzyband Downgrader can be installed using Cydia which should be available on your jailbroken iPhone 3G.

We haven't tried it out so please proceed with caution.
If you are the adventurous types and have gone ahead and given this a shot then please let us know how it goes.

Update:

w1kedz, developer of 3G Fuzzyband Downgrader has just commented to let us know that you can downgrade from any baseband to 02.28.00 as long as you have bootloader version 5.08. Thanks w1kedz!!

the article title should really read "from any version to 02.28.00" as that's kind of the real reason we made this app.

  9. 3amer says:

  13. dean says:

  14. iphonelegend09 says:

i was one of the unlucky ones to have the 2.2.1 on my iphone 3g. But i used quikpwn tojailbreak it anyway. If i use this tool to downgrade my baseband will that unlock it or do i have to do that separately with yellowsnow

  15. Andy Zhao says:

It is a knock off phone looks like iphone but it is not. It supports dual sim though.

  16. deano says:

you will have to install yellowsnow

however only works with bootloader 5.8

    so…..

    download the app from cydia
    then run it

    hope it works 4 u

  17. karl says:

you must be really stupid if you read i said that i had 3.0 os and that teh SOFTWARE (3g fuzzyband downgrader) said os not supported. so the 'above' info is wrong

  18. cristv77 says:

ok, so i have the booleader 6.02, is there a way to DG to 5.9?

  19. cristv77 says:

    I mean 5.8?

  20. deano says:

    sorry but no

  21. crist77 says:

    hmm, ok, thanks

  22. pappismurf says:

    OK….I ran Fuzzyband and determined I have bootloader 6.02 w/fw 2.2.1 and can't downgrade.

What are consequences (if any) if I am with AT&T and don't need to unlock?

    thanx

  23. deano says:

me stupid, whos the fool using a beta 3.0 os, another noob give the iphone back to your mummy and ask her to get u some lego

  24. ZedSefi says:

My bootloader is 5.08 and I have iPhone 3G running a jailbroken & unlocked firmware 2.2.1
I am planning to put my hands on the leaked beta5 of firmware 3.0 that doesn't require developers account, or maybe I'll wait for the official 3.0 but regardless of that, my question is the following:

If I am going to upgrade my iPhone to the new firmware using the unofficial QuickPwn then decide to downgrade the baseband later using Fuzzyband, will I become able to unlock my iPhone and use yellowSn0w? I mean I know that my baseband will be upgraded when I move to the new firmware, but will my bootloader 5.08 be upgraded to something else and lose the ability to use Fuzzyband to downgrade my baseband on bootloader 5.08 or it is just the baseband that is going to be changed and not the bootloader?

    Thank you for your help.

  25. Sher says:

Hi all I used this program a few minutes ago , it was so easy and everthing works no problems at all.

  26. Maher says:

I wish SOME of YOU people even google!

there is tons of news about downgrading from 2.30.03++ to 2.28

bootloader is fixed on a device, each device has its bootloader and the bootloader will remain on it. Bootloader cannot be down/upgraded by any means. so if you have bootloader 5.08 or bootloader 6.02 or whatever that means it will always be that bootloader.

    cheers

  27. lou says:

when i installed, it didnt downgrade the base band. So I uninstalled the program. However, I noticed that I lost the titles of all my icons on the iphone. For ex: the Facebook Icon does not state Facebook under the icon. All my icons lost the names. Camera, Photo, etc… I dont know how I did this and the only thing I can think of is that I installed this program to try downgrading. Does anyone know how to fix this? Maybe its a setting somewhere that I am overlooking?

    Thanks,

  28. Julian says:

If I downgrade the baseband to 2.28 from 2.30 can I use my Turbosim card again?

  31. jdarthurs@hotmail.com says:

I totally did this, and it totally worked!!! No more unlock nightmares!!! Thank you!

  32. Sean says:

So this only works if your iphone used to be jailbroken and you upgraded right? This app only works throuh cydia? Being that my iphone has never been jailbroken and i upgraded my iphone software than this means i still can't attenpt to use this program, is my assesment correct?

  33. reinier says:

you are right. you will not be able to install that program (downgrader) without downloading it from cydia(which requires jailbreaking).

  34. karl says:

piss off dean i know sarik who is all ur gods ok so coke on a cock n die

  35. rick says:

still if we cannot upgrade to the 3.0 and then downgrade the baseband to 2.28.00 whats the big deal?

  36. Fernando says:

Once the downgrade is done you need to run yellowsnow, working fine with my 5.08 bootloader.

  37. suresh says:

yes you can use your turbo sim if you downgrade

  38. Jordan says:

This works perfectly, Thank you very much!!!!

  39. CHRIS says:

So I want to jailbreak my iphone…which means i have to downgrade my baseband from 3.0 to 2.28. Well the instructions above say that you have to download the fuzzyband downgrade tool through cydia, which is only available on a jailbroken iphone??? I'm definitely missing something here. If I had a jailbroken iphone, why would i need to downgrade my baseband? the whole point is to jail break it! Please help.

  40. iPhoneHacks says:

The reason to downgrade the baseband is to allow users to unlock their
iPhone who might have accidentally upgraded to firmware 2.2.1 without
preserving the baseband. It does not have anything to do with jailbreaking.

  41. Dan says:

Guys i downgrade it, and it works perfect.. problem now beign every time i change my sim card I get put on the emergency screen?? how can i bypass this

  42. manny says:

phone is jailbroken cant find fuzzy band in cydia

  43. paul says:

    damn, got bootloaded 6.0.2…FAIL

is this something that is in development? something that will support unlocking the phones with bootloader 6.0.2, or are the owners of such phones completely SOL?
    i sure as hell don't mind waiting…

  46. Ronald says:

I’ve recently jailbroke & unlocked 2 3G Iphones with bootloader 6.0 and baseband 2.30. I have basically taken the steps as stated, however I was not aware of the bootloader issue at the time. So, I took a different solution for the unlock part and bought on Ebay the “2009 Gevey 3g PLUS 2″ turbo sim for $ 9.00. I was very skeptical about the turbo sim, but decided to give it a try and it worked as a charm with T-Mobile USA and a Dutch provider called Telfort (roaming in the USA via T-Mobile).

p.s. Be sure that you buy an original “2009 Gevey 3g PLUS 2″ turbo sim. I heard horror stories about non-original ones, like not fitting in the sim slot or being stuck in the sim slot.

  47. nightwalker says:

    hi w1kedz,

unfortunately i have updated to 3.10 with the new itunes 9.

i also have 5.80 as bootloader
but your tool does not work with this baseband. Do you have a solution for me to downgrade the baseband ?

  48. nightwalker says:
