Flight Control 1.1: Addictive iPhone Game gets even Better

iPhone game - Flight Control

Firemint recently released the new version of Flight Control. The simplicity and addictiveness of Firemint's iPhone game continues to grow.

Its back at the number one spot on the App store. The price remains at $.99 (which is 60% off its full price) but for a limited time!

I had enjoyed reviewing Flight Control as mush as I enjoyed playing it. The latest version has taken player feedback in to consideration and has come up with a set of good features and fixes.

Apart from some minor bug fixes, the flight control version 1.1 comes with new features.  Couple of features were something I had suggested in my earlier review article on the iPhone game.

1. The icon has changed! (kidding, don’t think that has any in-game implications)
2. The ability to SAVE and RESUME the game.

Remember, how the game couldn't save your progress, if you were to exit the app (when you got a call as an example). Well, now you can pause the game, exit the app and come back later to resume.

One thing to note is that it will save your game only if you exit from app by clicking on the ‘Home’ button. So, your game will not be saved if the game is paused and you click on the ‘Menu’ option.

3. We had also said that Firemint could improve the stickiness of the app by adding a social feature where one can check the high scores made by other iPhone/iPod Touch users.

Firemint seems to listening, we have a Flight Control leader board.  You can now compare your scores against other players and compete for higher rankings. You are ranked based on your score in the game.  To me, the high scores are unthinkable. So, please share of you have any tips to improve the score if you have made it to the leader board!

The new version also includes Google map and twitter integration, a forum for flight control player to discuss the game and more.

What’s NEXT…?

Future versions of Flight Control will have more features, such as, ability to choose different airports. And as mentioned in my review earlier, it would be nice to see different levels of difficulty, more background, ability to start the game at a certain difficulty level.

A lot has happened since this app was first launched on 6th March. As committed earlier, Firemint has publicly released impressive sales numbers for Flight Control especially when you consider that the iPhone game started off as a personal project for it's CEO:

  • Sales up to 27 April: over 700,000.
  • Total sales per country (57% of sales in USA).
  • Peak sales days (over 35,000 sold on best day) and sales trends over time.
  • Highest daily sales per country (19,164 in the USA)

In the meanwhile, I could only improve my scores by 2 points to 115 while our readers have raced ahead with Jeff's high score is 332, so I am back to flight control.

Please don't forget to let us know your thoughts on the latest version of Flight Control.
