Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0 Status Report

Since Apple released iPhone OS 3.0 yesterday, users have been eagerly waiting for iPhone Dev Team to release their updated tools to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0.

They were initially planning to release the latest version of QuickPwn and PwnageTool as soon Apple releases iPhone OS 3.0 but they seem to have hit couple of last minute issues which has prevented them from releasing the tools.

Dev Team have published the following update on their blog:

We have two issues that we’ve been trying to resolve:
  1. There are new 3.0 complications with YouTube.app if you’re on a hacktivated (unofficially activated) device
  2. There’s a bug in Apple’s new version of asr that our custom IPSW’s are tickling and causing crashes on, on some devices.  (For the nerdy or curious among us, the details of that bug were tweeted by planetbeing a month ago.)
As of Thursday morning we now have a workaround for #2.  For #1, we’ll try our best to get it fixed but we may end up releasing a preliminary jailbreak in which YouTube doesn’t work for hacktivated devices, and then follow that up with a more complete jailbreak when we can.

I'm sure many of you are eagerly waiting for Dev Team to release the tools but I guess you will have to be a little patient as they want to ensure that you don't end up hitting issues. We will let you know as soon as the tools are available.

Dev Team have already announced that they will be releasing UltraSn0w, their software solution to unlock iPhone 3G running iPhone OS 3.0 on Friday. We might have to wait and watch if the delay in the release of the jailbreaking tools will impact it's release date.

Will you jailbreak your iPhone if it prevents the YouTube app from working? I'm curious to find out, so please drop us a line in the comment section below.

Ontopic: Yea i was on youtube yesterday and a weird message said i need to connect to a wifi inorder to watch a video but i cancelled out and it went back to normal. I had my 3g/edge on at the time so idk what triggered it. How is the A2DP on the firmware?

Also if you didnt delete categories before upgrading your f***ed for the time being.

Offtopic: Anyone tried the Motorola S9 on the new firmware? Im thinking about getting them but not sure need an opinion.

  17. cristv77 says:

who can possible care if youtube dont work if the rest does?, the most important its the phone part, most of the ppl use email app, sms, i dont hear a lot of ppl caring about youtube, so, as for my self?, i dont even use it, i dont even have it on the main screen.

thx dev team, u focus first on the phone part, and I think its the most important

  18. Punk_Poet says:

I'm thankful for all of the things that the dev tam do for us. I wish that i myself could contribute but I know nothing about this sort of thing at that level. Any way… I will calmly and eagerly wait for the jailbreak tools to be released. My phone was activated at ATT when i got it so I'm not to worried. at the same time i would be mad if everything i have didn't work. so i don't want that to happen to this group of iphone users.

  19. Cant hardly wait.. says:

I cant wait, i keep refreshing the dev team blog and also checking iphone hacks always there with the tools and a step by step guide. Thanks guys.

  20. wolverinemarky says:

i dont use the youtube app too often so thats not a deal breaker for me i am ready whenever the devs are

  21. Lefty says:

Your kidding , right? YoutTube??? Who gives a – about youtube? There are a million other apps and reasons to us a jailbroken phone…. get on with it already!

  22. The Flaming Cow says:

I would definitely upgrade right now without the YouTube app… they'll figure that out eventually, and I hardly if ever use that app, plus there's alternatives. What I want is my SBsettings, my Categories, my Winterboard… all that back.

  23. Flame Red says:

A huge thank you to the JailBreak Developers. These folks do us a great service and no one has any justification for complaining. If you complain, just use the phone the way Apple delivered it and SHUT UP.

  24. LaNiqua Battiste says:

mxtube rocks but i need to jailbreak my 3.0

  25. major says:

    just use mxtube.

  26. Terriman says:

    I don't care about the f u c k i n g youtube app. This is bullshit. Release the app!!!!!!

  27. cOrpse says:

who cares about the youtube app.. but I rather have a stable jailbreak then a buggy one..

  28. tntmac says:

never used youtube app. only mxtube, so my vote goes on the F*** the youtube app pile.
and OMFG, everyone complaining about the delay in the new jailbreak deserves to have their iphone smashed into oblivion! These guys are awesome enough to be offering you an amazing FREE service…beggars cant be choosers b*tches

  29. toqeer says:

you tube app would not bother me as i have always used mxtube,

  30. ARCHA1C says:

They're hitting snags because they've been using th pre-release version of OS 3.0 for months. The final build was just released yesterday, so something must have changed. Get the c*ck out of your face and pay attention before you start popping off at the mounth with some sh*t you shouldn't've said, b*tch Im'a k__ you!

  31. tc says:

Ever consider that Apple also was aware of that and changed some code after GM?

  32. Mark says:

yea i really dnt use it youtube neither, i use mxtube more than youtube anyhow. PLEASE JUS RELEASE IT.

  33. Tavo says:

you tube problem is not for the general use of people that have not hacktivated the device,
so is not a problem, the wait is nothing compared to the time and effort the dev team put in the developing of these tools

  34. kayesport says:

complaining is not correct to do and you are getting something for nothing

it is just the goodwill of these guys they could charge lot of money for ther Time and services

you are ut of order order

  35. qweruiop13 says:

What do they mean by : "if you’re on a hacktivated (unofficially activated) device". What is a hacktivated device? A jailbroken one?

  36. Cant hardly wait.. says:

Will we get a step by step guide from upgrading to 3.0 to unlocking our phones still have mine on version 2.2, baseband 2.28 unlocked with yellowsn0w

  37. newOS3 says:

    you guys are great.
    keep up the good work!!!
    thank you.

  38. Thomas says:

I don't mind cause i don't use Youtube to much but do what you must :) I really hope it's quick. I know Dev Team Rocks and can pull it off :)

  39. Mikeyxx says:

Yes and no. If you have bought an AT&T iphone to use on a different carrier, you can't activate it to make it work, you need to trick the activation on the phone and hence "hacktivate". If you are just looking for the ability to do more with your phone than Apple or the carrier will allow, that's just Jailbroken.

  40. Andres says:

yeahh i hope they release it soon…

but i am pretty sure they are gonna release the pre version of it which youtube doesnt work friday morning.
cuz dont u see a pattern?

    update one: wednesday morning
    update two: thursday morning
    Update three: pre jailbreak(no youtube)
    saturday or sunday: final jailbreak.

    =]
    dats my predicitons.

  41. Stasiek says:

I have you tube on my another machines. This only one app amongs many. Many other which will run.

  42. Eric says:

I have the regular S9 (not the HD version) and they work fine. I'm not terribly discerning when it comes to audio quality, but they sound good to me. Volume controls work, play/pause work, track forward and back DO NOT. I don't skip around much, so not a dealbreaker for me, but I'm sure there are plenty of others that aren't going to like that. I thought I read that it's the phone that doesn't support the whole AVRCP shebang, not the headphones fault.

Count me in among those who'd rather see the jailbreak out now than worry about hacktivated YouTube. Props to the Dev Team for getting us this stuff!

  43. cerpintaxt says:

You're an idiot! if your going to complaint figure it ou yourself! Prick!!!!!!!

  44. Egypt says:

So your phone is fine when you pair your S9's and when you get a call? (the S9's do have a mic right?) O and another thing whats with the whole range thing? I read that it wont stay connected if your phone is in your pocket…? Has your songs skipped a bit because of connectivity?

  45. Asd. says:

If you people are complaining about a software and modification tools that some kind people are inverting their time in… and we, comon iPhone users, are just waiting for them to release it…YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN!.

If you had SOME respect for these people who make these kind of software possible, you should at least say thank you… not brag and complain just because a Delay.

You dont like it? DONT USE IT!

    Simple and clean.

  46. Quartermaine says:

My biggest worry is that I can no longer use Skype with Tricker 3G to place calls on the 3.0 update alone. I should have budgeted my minutes better, but I along with many others assumed the jailbreak would be out minutes after the official Apple release… WRONG. I should have kept my 2.2.1 JB until they were ready. At least I'll know for next time

  47. haha says:

    haha same!!

  48. chris says:

OMG u need to chill they dont have to do this at all….u could have a oem i phone this whole time….so show some respect

  49. mail@philipwaud.org.uk says:

Its quite simple buddy, if you had anything like a brain, you would go out and fix it. These guys are GODS and they have worked very hard to sort this, who cares if YouTube wont work for a while?

  50. Patrick says:

WOW, the most ignorant statement I've seen in my life. I want to apologize for this idiot, and say I appreciate all the hard work and dedication you guys put forth. I would definitely get it without a working youtube, even though I use it often for a quick laugh here and there.
