Rumor: Leaked Photos of New iPhone?

Apple's Next Gen iPhone Leaked

SpazioCellulare, an Italian website, has reported that they have received photos from an anonymous tipster who is claiming are of Apple’s new iPhone.

If the site is to be believed then we could be looking at photos of yet-to-be-released iPhone.

The images highlight some interesting details:

Additional slot at the top: In addition to the slot for the ear speakerphone, the first image shows another wider slot at the top of the face. Wonder what that is for?

Headset jack: If you look at the top-left corner of the first photo, you will notice that there is no slot for the headset jack.

And based on the second one, it looks like the jack has been moved to the bottom. This position would make it closer to the iPod Touch.

Camera shutter: There seems to be an additional button at the bottom right of the case, which could be for camera shutter.

Frankly, I’m quite skeptical about these photos as they seem to be screenshots from a website rather than actual photos of the new iPhone.

But based on all the rumors that we have heard, one thing seems to be quite clear, Apple’s third generation iPhone, which might be called iPhone Video will only have some minor changes in appearance as compared to iPhone 3G.

Update:

As our great readers have pointed out, here is some more evidence that the photos are fake:

  • Apple is expected to launch the new iPhone bundled with iPhone OS 3.0. The iPhone in the image doesn't seem to be running iPhone OS 3.0 as:
    • The voice memos app is missing from the home screen.
    • The SMS app has been renamed to Messages app as it will support both SMS and MMS. In the image, it still says SMS.
  • Reader Monstermac also points out that: "If the headset jack is at the bottom, where would they put the microphone? I know they might want to make the iPhone look like the ipod touch, but the iPhone is a phone, the ipod touch is not."
  • Some readers also point out that it is unlikely that Apple will add more buttons.

Awesome stuff folks!!!  Thanks for your great feedback.

Are you looking forward to a radically different third generation iPhone, or you would be more than happy with changes under the hood? I would love to know your thoughts in the comment section below.

  1. hxclos says:

Fake, it doesn't even look to be running 3.0. If anyone got their hands on a new iPhone it would not be running the old software. Just another case of Photoshop.

  2. Monstermac says:

    A few of things:
1.- If the headset jack is at the bottom, where would they put the microphone? I know they might want to make the iPhone look like the ipod touch, but the iPhone is a phone, the ipod touch is not.
2.- There have not been any leaks of new cases for the new phone like it did with the iPhone 3G. If they are planning to change the phone as shown, then you would see case manufacturers leaking the specs on the web like it happened with the 3G. And you know some of the Chinese case manufactures love to leak stuff.
3.- And like hxclos said, the shots show that thing running iPhone OS 2.2.1, not 3.0.
4.- Steve hates buttons, so why would they add a shutter button for the camera?

  3. iPhoneHacks says:

    Good catch!!!

You are right it does not have iPhone OS 3.0 running as it doesn't have the voice memo app.

  4. Mr 3G says:

Let apple do thier thing. If they wanted you to have a photo of the new iphone, then you would!

Easy fact to spot this picture is a fake

: The sms icon is not that of the new sms icon found in 3.0!

SO YES IT IS A FAKE!

(Apple are the masters of secrecy!) cant wait till next week! :-D

  5. Ljs says:

its not the 3.0 firmware because the sms app still says sms but i wouldnt mind it to look the same as the 3g im just ready for all the upgrades in the hardware

  6. Ljs says:

good call mr 3g hadnt refreshed mine or i could have kept that out

  7. TJ says:

Beyond just the obvious lack of 3.0 software, there is one GLARING fact that nobody seems to have noticed: Apple would NEVER add more buttons to something. If they could get away with having one button that did like ninety different functions they would (take a look at the Apple Remote, if you doubt this).

Also, the headset port being on the bottom of the iPod Touch is HUGELY unpopular, because it just looks and feels like it was put there by a retarded chimp on PCP. It makes no sense to put it on the bottom because now it has to go in your pocket upside down, and everyone likes their crap right-side up.

The "glowing" logo on the back was a nice touch though, and I think whoever created this mockup is quite the fool for including something that would only serve to needlessly drain the battery life of the phone. Which, if they had ever bothered to read any article ever written about the iPhone, was the exact opposite of what Apple was trying to achieve.

  8. Sean says:

Not only that, SMS is still named "text".

  9. Mr 3G says:

very true what was mentioned above. Apple hate buttons! I guess all will
Revealed next week. 1 thing for sure i know is that the new iphone
Will not differ at all to the 3g. Its not in apples nature and history
To completely change a product on its next product cycles.

Take the macs for instance, many hardware and software changes but
No physical changes, because the first look is what defines there
Stronghold in the markets they dominate.

So my prediction is, dont expect any physical changes and expect
Over 100 news features and many more as mentioned by apple.

  10. Ben says:

it is running 3.0 look at the battery life indicator, it shows the percentage next to the battery gauge which is a 3.0 only feture, unless they jailbroke it

  11. Shriv says:

i completely agree…there probably would be an auto shutter.

and also the OS. wow these people are really bad at faking stuff

Love the site btw. its in my 'Morning list' of websites that are must checks :P

  12. Vishnu says:

i wish this is fake its so ugly and doesn't look like running 3.0 look the sms icon and no camera in the the front for video calling or ichat

  13. iPhoneHacks says:

These photos look really legit and it looks AMAZING im so excited for it because it has the matte finish, its slim, and just omg it looks so tight!

  15. pleasure and pain says:

i think the photos are fake also, but i think that the headphone jack is supposed to replace the loud speaker and the loud speaker is now the extra hole at the top.. would make the loud speaker better imo
    thanks..

  16. Louis says:

I just hope the new phone that comes out is a new phone that comes out and they don't call it a new phone just because it's running 3.0 with bigger hd n faster processor…
