Apple has just released iPhone OS 3.0.1 to fix the SMS vulnerability which was revealed by researchers Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner yesterday at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas.
They had claimed that a security vulnerability in the iPhone's SMS
messaging system could allow hackers to in theory "take over
every iPhone in the world".
Apple seems to have realized that it was serious enough to release a patch to fix the SMS vulnerability.
Researchers Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner claim that they have found a security vulnerability in the iPhone's SMS messaging system which could allow hackers to in theory "take over every iPhone in the world". It occurs regardless of hardware revision or which version of the iPhone OS is running.
They plan to reveal the details of the security hole at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas.
Apple has finally released MobileMe iDisk app for iPhone which was unveiled at Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in early June.
The iDisk will allow MobileMe subscribers to easily browse and view files stored on their iDisk and share files with others via integrated e-mail links rather than sending huge file attachment.
Earlier in the year, Apple had told the U.S. Copyright Office that it believes
jailbreaking an iPhone is a violation of the DMCA and infringes on its
copyright.
To counter it, Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) had filed an exemption request with the to get the U.S. Copyright Office to grant DMCA exception so
users can jailbreak their iPhone without fear of copyright infringement
penalties.
PCWorld is reporting that Apple has told the U.S. Copyright Office that jailbreaking the iPhone could lead to major network disruptions or allow people to avoid paying for phone calls.
While we wait for streaming music service Spotify's iPhone app to get approved, we have news that Apple has banned all Google Voice related iPhone apps including Google's official Google Voice application from the App Store.
Apple has rejected the iPhone apps as they are duplicating features that are already available on the iPhone such as Dialer, SMS etc.
Streaming music service Spotify has submitted their iPhone App to the App Store for approval.
If approved, it would bring more than 6 million songs on-demand, giving you the ability to create
and save ordered playlists of songs, and it will also allow you to save
your favorite songs offline so you can play them even when you're not
connected to the internet which Spotify considers is the killer feature of the app.
But only problem is that its widely speculated that Apple will reject the iPhone app.
Folks at WhenWillApple have discovered changes in the copy/paste feature for videos in iPhone OS 3.1 beta 3 that was released to developers just few hours ago.
So you will be able to copy and paste videos in emails like you can do with photos. In iPhone OS 3.0, you could only use the share option which would compress the video to a lower resolution.
Apple has seeded developers of their iPhone Developer Program with the third beta version of iPhone OS 3.1 (Build 7C116a). Apple also released a new version of the iPhone SDK 3.1, Beta 3 (Build 9M2808).
The download size is 307MB. Apple hasn't provided details about the improvements expected in the third beta version of iPhone OS 3.1.
When we had described some of the 100 new features in iPhone OS 3.0, we had mentioned that users will get the option to see the remaining battery power in percentage.
But when iPhone OS 3.0 was released, we found out that this feature was strangely available only to iPhone 3GS users and not to iPhone 3G or first generation iPhone (iPhone 2G) users.
Thankfully like MMS and tethering, some clever folks have figured out a simple way to enable this minor but nice feature for iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G users.
During the third quarter 2009 earnings conference call, Apple's Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook had mentioned:
“We’re seeing growing interest with the release of iPhone 3.0 and the
iPhone 3GS due in part to the new hardware encryption and improved
security policies.”
But according iPhone hacking expert, Jonathan Zdziarski the new iPhone 3GS hardware encryption feature is “broken” when it comes to
protecting sensitive information.
