Before we start some important points:

Works great. Working: ultrasnow sbsettings appsync backgrounder

  2. Jean says:

Great, is winterboard working now ?
    I can't wait to jailbrack my 3GS

  3. Blane says:

No. Don't download Winterboard until it says "Updated for 3.0!" because it will lock your phone to just the apple logo for a few minutes (not permanent, but really annoying!) and will put your phone in Safe Mode until you delete it.

Worked great! For people who are having a problem with push notification like I was, there is a fix. This is what I did.
    1. SSH the 4 files to /private/var/Keychains
    2. Uninstall the push app (i.e. beejive or similar) you intend to test on from your device and reboot
    3. Test youtube, reinstall the above push app and test.

    Hope it works for everyone!

  5. david says:

Sorry for the ultra noob question but what does SSH mean? =X

  6. XIAUBAUU says:

wifi still not very stable. Everytime I put the sim in, and reboot, it will not be able to detect wifi.

  7. JustinWoodypond says:

SSH is what you do to access the core files of your iPhone so you can add, edit, delete files.

  8. Kray-Z says:

Question: should we trust him? As this is not the DEV team release so i don't know how reputable this guy is. Also if the DEV team has a reason to not release their version yet then why did this guy? I guess its reliable since its posted here but i would like a confirmation from iPhoneHacks as to if i should trust this source or just wait for the DEV team to release their hack. Personally I'm seriously considering waiting, any comments greatly appreciated, thanks a lot iPhoneHacks and the DEV team!!!!

  9. pdx says:

thanks! no push was starting to get me down..

  10. Joel R says:

So does ultrasn0w work with the 3gs?

  11. NateDawg says:

i've added the source and it gave me an error, but i was still able to install ultrasn0w. don't know any other method of checking it other than switching with another carrier's SIM, which i don't have at the moment.

  12. NateDawg says:

I don't think i even have Wifi anymore. I can't find my own home network and I'm sitting less than a foot away from the router haha.

  13. henhface says:

On Step 6, the first screenshot posted (the one with the "Downloading…" message and about 5-10% of Cydia downloaded) has been on my screen for about 20 minutes. I am connected to my home wi-fi network which is working fine. Is anyone else having this problem? How long does Cydia typically take to install?

  14. JRMedic19 says:

Well i installed purplera1n and got to stare at the "man" for a few minutes … once it rebooted i don't see freeze app. and nothing changed – i think. will try again and let ya'll know

  15. henhface says:

Just to clarify — my iPhone is not actually frozen, since the time and battery life keep updating and it recognizes when i plug it into external power. It's just the download that is hanging at about 5-10% completed.

I have closed Freeze, rebooted, and retried, with still no luck. Any suggestions?

  16. NateDawg says:

restart ur iphone before you try it again.

  17. NateDawg says:

how's your home network looking? are there other people on it using youtube or a p2p program that hogs all the bandwidth. it only took a couple of mins for cydia to install over my wifi network.

  18. JRMedic19 says:

well i figured it out … you have to restart purplera1n and "make it rain" (again) while the itunes connect screen is on (which is just prior to the "man screen")

  19. JRMedic19 says:

just finished cydia, no probs for me, sorry.

  20. henhface says:

    Thanks for your reply.

There are two laptops on the home network, one of them mine, but we are not using a lot of bandwidth (just standard web surfing). In either case I would think even if we were using a lot of bandwidth the download would just be going very slowly, not completely stopped. I'm pretty sure the home network is not the problem, although I'm no expert.

  21. JRMedic19 says:

We'll ive got my first jailbroken phone "yay" … now what should i do??? :)

  22. henhface says:

Just to be clear — I am a so-called "noob", so bear with me — I do not need to have my iPhone connected to my computer with iTunes running when running Freeze, right? I know I had to do so in order to run purplera1n, but once Freeze is installed it's my understanding that I can disconnect my iPhone from the computer and iTunes is no longer necessary to complete the jailbreak?

  23. sshams95 says:

so, push notifications dont work with this jb?

  24. Spamsaucer says:

How do I get web page videos to work?

  25. Cmurf1983@aol.com says:

App store not working and skype crashes. Any work around

  26. Akash says:

Hey !!! my iphone 3gs does not reboot after recovery… its just display hacker's photo but i can't find freeze and other icon…at application:purplera1n i find "DONE,BUT WAIT FOR REBOOT"…but its not reboot at all..

    what to do ???

  27. Spamsaucer says:

It says download or play media player

  28. kandarp says:

dude restore it back with itunes and do it all over again.

  29. Mark says:

Work's seamlessly. I haven't run into one problem yet. Thank you for the instructions they were pristine. Can anyone stipulate as to when Winter board 3.0 will be released. Once again I cannot thank iphonehacks and Mr. Hotz enough for this jailbreak. %$#@ yes!

  30. Metallica says:

Wow! You are a n00b!! Where have you been for the past two years. GeoHot has unlocked and jailbroken every singe iPhone from 1.0 in 2007, without him there is no Dev Team, all the Dev Teams work is based around his findings, no one on the planet knows about hacking iPhone as much as him. This "guy" is soo much cleverer than the whole of Dev Team put together. He's found multiple exploits in the 3GS whilst Dev Team have only found 1!!!!

  31. thanks worked seamlessly. i must bookmark iphonehacks for future updates and tutorials. anyone got 3gs mms working with orange europe?

  32. RjAmN says:

Just wondering….what is the difference bettween these hacks n the ones ppl are selling on easyiphoneunlocking.com n autounlocking.com…..are they all made by the same ppl….y did those sites have hacks for the 3gs b 4 this site….not trying to down this site…very gratefull for all the hacks I ever got fr here….just wondering…thanks

  33. engage16 says:

Those are fake advertisements… They don't actually offer any unlocking services… Its a scam to get your money, well I assume not yours, but some idiot who is stupid enough to pay for nothing…

  34. madelin says:

you right the gay is the besttttttt

  35. madelin says:

but my iphone doesn't work with cydia i have the 3gs and i crash my ph the first time

  36. RjAmN reply to engage16 says:

hey thanks for the response….here is my next question….if they are fake, y do they advertise them in this site

  37. hxclos says:

This f@%&in kid better not ruin it for the rest of us waiting on the Dev Team. It's hard to believe someone smart enough to jailbreak a 3GS can do such a crappy photoshop of himself.

  38. Fisix says:

Just wondering, how big is the Cydia file? I'm downloading it via my phone company line instead of Wi-Fi. Hope it's not too big because I dont really want to end up with big bills this month :(

  39. Rain says:

So I just tried the method listed above, it seems to work out just as the instructions stated, but I'm still uncertain wether or not it has been successfully jailbroken or not. Anyway of knowing for certain?

  40. Jeff says:

So guess what?! I restored finally after 2 tries and now my phone works fine without crappy purplerain! Imagine that!

  41. teknikad says:

    hey all,

so i've tried the instructions a few times ( and what JRMedic19 suggested) but I just keep getting to the "man screen" while purplera1n says "done, wait for reboot". Nothing changes. Each time I've eventually just manually restarted my phone and checked for Freeze but never found it. Any tips? There aren't really any places I could be going wrong…it's fairly straight forward.

  42. RalphDot2 says:

I need to ask a VERY NOOB question.

When i use the guide, back up my iphone, and install the jailbreak, will all my contacts and current apps still be on the phone if all went well, and i didnt need to reset?

  43. NateDawg says:

you will get a new blank app called freeze. find it, run it. download cydia so you can download/install all the goodies.

  44. NateDawg says:

when you plug your iPhone into your computer, iTunes automatically backs it up. but it only backs up your contacts and messages, the little stuff. your songs, videos, and apps are going to have to be re-synced after you restoren the back up.

  45. XIAUBAUU says:

work perfectly on mine. JB and unlocked in China Mobile.

  46. Berry says:

Cant wait for winterboard to start working

  47. Tony c says:

This guy created the first unlock for iphone. its ok . but this is just a quick fix. and ultra snow works. but dev is waiting for 3.1
if you want cydia now. then do it. if not wait.

  48. twistedsoul says:

everything works great… if u happen to install winterboard like I did (oops..) just wait for the phone to reboot 2-3 min and uninstall winterboard via cydia and viola!

  49. twistedsoul says:

DO NOT!!!!!!!! install FWchanger (firmware changer) then change the FW you will have to restore… I am hoping it will restore!

  50. iPhoneNinja says:

I cant seem to delete freeze. I tryed cydelete and the x pops up on the icon, but a message comes up saying "not installed by cydia cannot delete" i just have it poofed now. Works great otherwise 5 icon dock "dock" db settings ua faker nice work!
