Folks at Covino & Rich Show, hosts of the Maxim Radio talk radio show on Sirius and XM satellite radio has published photos on their blog that they claim are of Apple's next generation iPod Touch.
The authenticity of the photos has not been confirmed but the photos match previous rumors, which claim that Apple's new iPod Touch will be sporting a camera and a microphone.
Their blog post provides additional information:
-to show its real. If you look at the board, it states Apple 2009 very clear. The 2nd gen AKA iPod touch out now, has 2008 on it. They havent revised the 2008 touch. I will compare them in pic in a sec.
-BTW, these phones NEVER leave Apple and this one left but it was a durability test phone, so thats why the screen is all gridded off and cracked.
-The side by side picture is the inside of the current gen vs the 3rd gen (one coming out in September).
-I acquired this from a guy that I buy parts phones and iPods from. I believe hes a recycler in ***********, so what most likely happened is that Apple threw this away and he some how got it and sold it for parts.
MacRumors had also received a somewhat blurry image claimed to be Apple's next generation iPod Touch from the same source. They have made an interesting observation:
The rumored next-generation version does, however, appear to contain a red motherboard in contrast to the typical black circuit boards. The use of red or other alternate colored circuit boards is relatively common in prototype devices.
We might not have to wait too long to find out the authencity of these photos, as Apple might be planning for a Keynote event in early September where it is widely speculated that Apple will announce their third-generation iPod Touch just like they did last year at the "Let's Rock" special event.

That may not be the reason. According to rumors, Apple might announce new
16/32/64 GB iPod Touches for $199/299/399 as compared to current 8/16/32 GB
iPod Touches which Apple sells for $229/299/399.
So more features for less, probably due to competition from Zune HD.

Well a camara just makes sense. Who know, I might buy one even though I just bought a 3GS.
why do these models look so heavily abused? i mean if they have had these models for a good amount of time they shouldnt look like this through normal wear and tear…or are they just that easy to damage?

IMO…I highly doubt that there will be a camera on the 3rd gen. ipod touch. Plus I think it's useless on the touch. Even I have an iphone and I barely use the camera that comes with it. Just takes too much space on the touch.

I think that they should add a camera to the iTouch but why would it be in the middle..? Isn't that black part on the back (on the top side) where the camera should be?
It doesn't make sense why Apple would leave that black spot there (which looks like a missing upgrade like when you have a car that's not equipped with say a sunroof it still has that area but its just covered).

tahts where the wifi radio waves go thru. ever wonder why the orig. iphone had some plastic on the bottom? radio waves dont penetrate metal and it had to do wifi and edge and 2g. similar on the ipod touch but only one transceiver to put by the plastic instead of like 4 so theres less plastic. the iphone 3g and 3gs are entirely plastic. the cam cant go there. but ur logic is good.

Apple needs to innovate consistently. Hope they listen to users demands on new product additions.
This is fake because he just drilled into the ipod and inserted a iphone camera in it also there is no proof like turning it on ,they should have made a new firmware which supports the new ipod touch cause its coming next month .
Remember the iphone rumors and matt back and fm chip in it ,it was fake.
its not a fake because look at the back. All other ipods had the apple logo on them, but the one he is showing has no logo and there's no way you can remove that.
ok so we all love the ipod ant iphone but i did some digging and u have to check the device out tell me what u think in reply i think it is the touch killer

actually a half-decent power metal brush sander can remove it quite easily, tho it does leave a very rough finish… however, the ipod looks so professionally built with its cleanly mounted camera and relatively smooth finish that I think (and hope) its real
I must admit that I was intrigued simply by the title of this article, so I just had to check it out! Hopefully these leaked photos reflect the real thing! it might make sense to buy something like this if
a) you're happy with your cell phone
b) you want to use skype
c) can't do it on your cell phone
d) don't want to be locked in a long-term plan
makes sense?
the archos 5 isnt a touch killer because it is a media player not an mp3 player. its in a different market.
