New Features in iTunes 9: Ability to Organize iPhone apps; Blu-ray Support & Social Media Integration

iTunes-based App Management System

Boy Genius Report has just reported that they have received a tip from a "reliable source" that the new version of iTunes 9 will include some exciting new features.

They claim that the new version of iTunes could include Blu-ray support, give users the ability to visually organize and arrange iPhone apps within iTunes and some kind of integration with social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and possibly Last.fm.

The Blu-ray support in iTunes 9 seems to be in line with another rumor we have heard about Apple integrating blu-ray in next generation iMacs.

The integration with social networking sites could mean broadcasting of the currently playing song to social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook etc along with a link to buy the song in iTunes. MG Siegler of TechCrunch believes this could mean some significant sales.

The feature that got me very excited is the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone apps within iTunes.

Even though there are tricks, which make it a little easier to manage iPhone apps on iPhone's home screen, I have always felt that Apple should provide a better way to manage iPhone apps within iTunes as it would be a lot easier to do it on the computer rather than managing them on the iPhone.

In fact, iPhone user svdomer09 had proposed an iTunes-based solution to manage iPhone apps, which sounds similar to the feature BGR has reported. Svdomer09 had also published an impressive concept video to show how it should work.

This is leaked news so please take this one with a grain of salt. But, let's hope Apple Engineers have taken notice of this concept and release an iPhone app management solution in the new version of iTunes.

Please tell us what do you think about the iTunes-based solution to manage iPhone apps in the comments.

this is sweet. its kinda annoying to re-arrange apps one by one when you have 9 pages lol

  2. Gus says:

Would be nice, I have my apps pretty organized on the iPhone so it would be great to do it in itunes with a mouse instead…

  3. smartAZ says:

Has anyone tried it? Does it break anything cool, like tethering/MMS hacks, etc.? I will definitely jump to upgrade if tethering is not affected… :)

  4. iPhoneHacks says:

In case you missed it, this is just a rumor as iTunes 9 is still to be released.

Along with the app arrangement, how about app emulation. Being able to launch an app inside iTunes and use it, and have the data sync with the iPhone when connected.

So I could have a Notes app that has a shopping list and I populate it with somethings while on the computer, sync it and the when walking to my car, i think of something else, whip out my iPhone and add the new thing.

who really cares about layout management? ok it would be better to have it than not, but why get excited to move your icons around from your computer? how often do you really need to move stuff around that you cant deal with it from the iphone?
