
AdMob, the mobile advertising startup has released June 2009 Metrics Report, which reveals some interesting details about the hugely successful iPhone App Store.
According to AdMob, iPhone Apps worth $200 million are sold every month or about $2.4 billion a year on the iPhone App Store.
AdMob surveyed more than 1000 of their iPhone, iPod Touch and Android users. Below are some findings from the survey carried out by AdMob and usage behavior found on various iPhone apps and web sites across its ad network.
- iPod Touch users download 80% more apps than iPhone and Android users.
- iPhone and iPod Touch users buy twice as many apps as Android users.
- 50 percent of iPhone users buy at least one app every month vs. 40 percent of iPod touch users vs. 19 percent of Android users.
- iPhone users download approximately 10 iPhone apps per month of which around 25% are paid iPhone apps.
- iPhone users who download iPhone apps, spend an average of $9.49 (iPhone) or $9.79 (iPod touch) per month for an average application price of just under $2.00.
AdMob concludes that since there are approximately 45 million devices that run iPhone OS, iPhone Apps worth $200 million are sold every month or about $2.4 billion a year on the iPhone App Store. In comparison, the Android market is estimated at approximately $60 million per year.
