iPhone OS 3.1 Release notes

Please remember that the Dev Team had warned users who have jailbroken and unlocked their iPhone to avoid iTunes 3.1 for now. It will be also interesting to see if iTunes 9 prevents jailbreaking the iPhone.

But if you don’t care about jailbreaking or unlocking your iPhone then download and install iPhone OS 3.1 via iTunes and please let us know how it goes.

Update 1:

Beta versions of iPhone OS 3.1 had broken the tethering hack, however we are hearing conflicting reports , some say it works with iPhone OS 3.1 that was released today and some say it's broken. So please wait for a confirmation before updating.

To avoid any confusion, please note:

  • 3.1 (7C144) was released for all three generations of iPhone.
  • 3.1.1 (7C145) was released for all three generations of iPod Touch. iPod touch users running earlier versions of iPhone OS can upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1 for $4.95.

Update 2:

iPhone OS 3.1 also includes updates iPhone's modem firmware from 04.26.08 in iPhone OS 3.0 to 05.11.07. So users who have jailbroken their iPhone and want to unlock it will have to wait for the iPhone Dev Team to release updated version of their PwnageTool, which will allow them to update the OS firmware without updating the modem firmware.
